First Match

Right, hopefully this bitch will be attending his first Man Utd match at the ripe old age of 17 when Deportivo come to town. :)

So, what was the first United match you ever saw, who they played, what score etc and what was your experience like?

17 er. and a bird. Must be ripe. got a boyfriend?.

My first game was the the Charity shield when we beat Newcastle 2-0. I think Eric got the first, and then Ince got an overhead kick just before the end.

My first OT game was when we beat Crystal Palace 3-0. Eric got one, Kanchelskis got another and I can't remember who else scored. It was memorable as being Gary Neville's full league debut.

If I may be allowed to indulge a little for those interested !

My first United match was on TV - the 1957 Cup Final when the Babes' Double dreams were ruined by one Peter McParland.

My first live game was at Stamford Bridge against Chelsea in May 1958, one week before the Cup Final which we lost to Bolton after getting to Wembley quite miraculously just three months after Munich that Feb. Ernie Taylor scored for us in a 1-2 defeat.

The first game I saw at OT was against Spurs in 1965. I had seen them hammer us 5-1 at WHL earlier in the season, so I just had to see the "return" to see if we could get some revenge. It had been raining non stop for ten days but the pitch held up remarkably well and the boys turned it on and won 5-1 which was indeed such sweet revenge, with Bobby Charlton opening the scoring at the Stretford End with an incredible half volley from outside the penalty area.

More of just a general derogatory term nowadays, IMO.

Anyway, back to the point.

First live game at OT was in ’69 or ’70, can’t remember the opposition or the score but can still remember the magic. Walked to Earlstown railway station picking up various mates on the way. Got the train to Victoria. Walked from town to Old Trafford. First glimpse of the ground, not then known as the Theatre of Dreams but still a sight to behold. Pie & chips from the chippy on the corner of what is now Sir Matt Busby Way! And then on to the Stretford End terraces where the crowd moved like a sea and the songs I sang that day live on. Who’s that team we call United! Hello, Hello, We are the Busby Boys! We are just one of those teams that you see now & then… A truly life changing experience!

First away game was at Leeds, very scary. We had to walk unescorted back into Leeds city centre after beating them. We hid our scarves but my mate had a tiny United crest lapel badge. When we got into the square in front of Leeds station, there were hundreds of them. We kept cool & walked but halfway across someone spotted the badge and they were all after us. Ran for our lives into the station, loads of Reds there to greet us, Leeds lot saw them and thought better of it.

Get yourself in the Stretford End or the Scoreboard where the singing’s at. It can’t be the same as it was on the terraces but it might be almost as good. Enjoy!
:D

Can't remember my first TV-game.

But my first live-match was in Denmark in 98. Pre-season against Brøndby I.F. at Parken.

as far as I remember the scorers was Sheringham (2), Scholes, Cruyff, Cole (2).

My OT-debut was last year though... against Aston Villa, which we won 1-0 (RvN) - Schmeichel's first game at OT after leaving!

well, since i live in australia, my first and only match was when united played the socceroos ar stadium australia. when yorkie got the goal and cole hacked down colosimo.

Back in 1997 I believe when United hammered the Geordies at Wembley in the Charity shield 4-1...

Just a shame we got beat by them them 5-1 that same season.

yeah, as an overseas kid i've only had the chance to see united play south china in hong kong. it wasn't an amazing game and i think united pulled out a 1-0 win with a goal from cole.

kf - that first away game at leeds sounds like quite the story...
