Just watched David Mamet's 'The Spanish Prisoner', which is as twisty turny as a corkscrew in a vortex!

Any other examples of great twists in films - obviously without giving away any of the twists!;)

A few off the top of my head...

The Usual Suspects
The Sting
Planet of the Apes
Seven
Memento

Any more?

Million Dollar Baby.

Thought it would be a female-Rocky film, but no.

That film "right at your door" was shit and basically spent an hour building up to one twist that was supposed to make it all worth while......it wasn't, still a decent twist though.

everyone always talks about the Sixth Sense too, not got round to watching it yet though.

Sixth Sense really is a good film.

The second time you watch it it's not as good though, guess it shows how important it is not knowing what's coming in a scary movie.

Lucky Number Slevin

Not exactly a good real twist but its the only one I can remember at the moment.

For fecks sake I read up and realised its already been said...

I know one major one .. Star Wars Episode something.. You know "I'm you're father" and all that... :nervous:

Matchstick Men or Man, the Nicholas Cage one

I've been wanting to watch The Spanish Prisoner after reading about it but couldn't find it.

A few more I've read about but haven't seen... Hard Eight, Nine Queens, Prime Gig, Widow's Peak.

To be very fair, although the Prestige was made well and both Jackman and Bale(And Bowie!) acted well, the 'twist' could not have been more ovious if it had come and smacked you on your balls and stood up for you to see it.

Agreed.

The Jackman bit with the duplicates and all might have been obvious but the Borden i.e. Bale having a twin part, I don't think many people actually guessed that.

What twist was there in that film?

Maybe not the twist but the well planned day of Denzel. Had Ethan Hawke smoking pot on the pretext of having him 'testing it' when he was actually trying to get drugs in his blood system so if that he actually squealed the authorities, he would go don himself. I guess that's what ZIDANE meant. Still did not end well for Denzel though.

The most obvious twist in a recent film was the illusionist. so obvious it spoilt the film.

It turns up now and then on Sky Movies...I got a dvd copy for £1.00 from my local rental shop...pre-owned but who's counting?:) Well worth a quid when there's so much shite out there.

Typical David Mamet screenplay...well written and never really sure who anyone is that they say they are...if that makes sense? Steve Martin in a serious role for once is also a bonus.

As for some mentions of The Sixth Sense...unfortunately I did guess the twist after the first ten minutes, which I was kind of hoping that it wouldn't be the twist and something else would come through.

Sorry, standard of sentance structure this morning is a bit rubbish!:D

Anyone seen Soylent Green?

A twist that there was no twist?

Jacob's Ladder's another one with a twist. Brilliant and very underrated.

Agree...excellent film. And way better than The Sixth Sense which probably nicked the whole twist (without giving away what the twist actually is, which I probably have just done if you know the twist to The Sixth Sense!:wenger:).

Original version of The Manchurian Candidate, anyone?

The Illusionist

Anyone who couldn't spot the twist in the tail of that one is probably dead. My missus fell asleep half way through the film and could still guess the twist when I asked her to guess the next day.

I worked out the twist in Sixth Sense at the beginning. Thing is, we were told it had a twist, which made me look for it. Same goes for Usual Suspects. Obvious.

Jacob's Ladder is brilliant film, very chilling, the twist just gives it a good conclusion. . . but in some films they're nothing more than a cheap deus ex machina trick. Primal Fear prime example. A nothing film, that relies on a twist.

And another one with a twist - Following by Nolan.
