Maybe he's an old member whose account got deleted accidently
I forgot my password to my old account, and my old ISP's email was inactive after working away for the past year - so I was unable to use the retrieve password ability 
Or my vindictive ex-wife deleted my account, seeing as how she knew how often I frequented these boards!
