He's out of contract summer 2017 and not 2018 which I only noticed today, he will be 32 next May but has been one of consistent performances in recent years.

Given he's not renewed his contract there's obviously some sort of issue and he's in a good position knowing he can leave the club on a free next summer. He'd earn a lot more by leaving City.

Anyone else agree we should be in for him?

City don't need the money, they should offer him a year extension or let him run the deal down at that age. They're in prime position.

If he's out of contract in 2018, he isn't out of contract next summer. Which is it?

Good player but no. Would rather a player in his prime than moving away from it.

Were signing City players now ?

You do realise we're no longer in the 90's.

A very good premiership player who wouldn't need any time to settle and there would be no transfer fee.
I doubt very much it would happen just like we wont be signing any liverpool players anytime soon.
Besides he'll probably get a one year contract extension next year.
He will also be 32 next year,we should be planning long term with younger players.

He's a good but not great player, too old, and plays for City. No thanks.

That last one would rule out 99.9% of footballers for me. Bad enough when we had Owen for a few years.

Funnily enough the 90's was probably the last time we signed a senior player from City. Tony Coton.

Since then it's been pretty much one way traffic with City picking up youngsters like Terry Cooke and cast offs like Hargreaves from United.

Can't see him signing for United, to be honest. Fernandinho will probably sign a short term extension with City or perhaps join a less physically intensive league to prolong his career at the top level (eg. Juventus would make sense, for all the usual reasons - he could basically alternate with Marchisio/Khedira and play well into his mid 30s). If we need a player like him, then might as well sign Fabinho from Monaco. Not as experienced or wily (yet), but has a similar-ish characteristics in the defensive midfield role, and at 23 years of age - is more in line with the profile of player we should be signing (especially in terms of medium to long term squad building - United need long term replacements for Carrick and depth of greater quality, not bandage solutions that will leave us scrambling in 2 seasons, IMO). And, he offers a degree of versatility in the fullback position.

Signing a short term extension makes little sense for him when he can easily get a 3-year contract somewhere. I won't be surprised at all if he moves to China and think that's actually the most probable scenario.

We've already got Fellaini to fill up our yellow card quota. No thanks.

Good player, too old though.
