Fergie targets three signings

Sir Alex Ferguson has ruled out wholesale changes at Old Trafford this summer.

But the Manchester United manager expects to make 'two or three signings' to strengthen the squad which won the Premiership title.

'There won't be massive dealings,' Ferguson told the club's official website. 'But hopefully there will be two, or maybe three, that will come in.'

Reports of a clear-out were mooted but United's end-of-season form - together with their avowed intention to keep David Beckham - means the vast majority of Ferguson's current squad will be at Old Trafford again next year.

But Ferguson has been linked with vast numbers of players, with Paris Saint-Germain saying United want Brazilian Ronaldinho and Real Madrid's Claude Makelele denying he wanted to join the Premiership winners.

Other reported targets include Blackburn winger Damien Duff, West Ham striker Jermain Defoe, Leeds keeper Paul Robinson and Portuguese starlet Ricardo Queresma.

Fergie said two or three new players will come.

If it is two, I guess it is a striker and a winger.

If it is three, then the third one may be a defender.

What's your guess on it?

He will have a short-list of players drawn up.

I think it's safe to say that a striker will be bought, and if the right goalie is available for the right price, the goalie will be coming as well.

The third player will be a defender or a midfieler - depending on who's available etc.

He will reject his contract offer next week...I just have that feeling <img src="graemlins/keano.gif" border="0" alt="[Keano]" /> </strong><hr></blockquote>

Think ol' Harry will end up at Anfield...

1. Canizares or Kahn to replace Barthez
2. Mexes to replace Blanc
3. Escude to replace May
4. Kewell to replace Chadwick

what bout ronaldinho?

Ronaldinho (first team)
A. Keeper (first team)
Escude (squad)

I don't think we are looking to cover the left wing now Giggs is back in form, so no Kewell.

We may go for Duff as a striker, if we don't get Ronaldinho

Can't see much more than that.

I doubt Sir Alex really wants to sign a playboy, esp. given he looks just like Dwight.

Probably a smokescreen to knock the Kewell price a little.

Do we really need to get two young defenders?

If we need to replace Blanc, I prefer someone with more experience. Our own reserve players (Tate or Tierney) should also be given a chance. They may be better than May anyway.

Ideally I'd love to see us sign Mexes & Ayala or someone like that. But I doubt we'd splash too mcuh $$$ about in such an uncertain market.

Escude & Mexes (if reports are to be believed) are both relatively cheap and Fergie is a known admirer or both and they can't be too shabby if they play for France.

Yes. Reinforce the damn thing and replace O'Shea who's moving to CM.</strong><hr></blockquote>

 Our current defence is fine. They just need more time to get more experience and gel together. Besides I don't think we need a new player in CM, as long as we are not going to sell Keano, veron, butt and phil neville.

I wonder who will it be? <img src="graemlins/keano.gif" border="0" alt="[Keano]" /> </strong><hr></blockquote>

I've also read that. Anyway we already have two or three very good young defenders here, we just need someone who can provide experience and commanding presence in Europe.

Ronaldinho
Kewell
Baraja or Van Buyten

N/b - if its Baraja, then perhaps we could see Roy Keane moving to centre back and Ruben Baraja playing in the defensive cntral midfield role

Furthermore if Barthez is sold then we will most likely bring in - Recber or Niemi

Quaresma
Kewell
Canizares
+ a Fullback on the cheap say about 4mil
+ a Keeper

Fergie will buy more than three. I bet he's iching to start cause he only got one player last year(and wat a buy it was)
Also more than three will leave. Blanc,May gone and i won't be betting on 2 player's not being sold. Chadwick one and the other may be a keeper.
