SIR ALEX FERGUSON has taunted Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger yet again by claiming Patrick Vieira would prefer to be playing for Manchester United.
United tried to sign Vieira last season but the Highbury board refused to let their inspirational French midfielder go and blocked the move.
But Old Trafford boss Fergie could not resist another pre-season swipe at Wenger by insisting Vieria would love to be pulling on the red of United rather than Arsenal.
Ferguson said: "They would all like to come here. Patrick Vieira would love to have come here last year but they wouldn't let him.
"Players will always want to go to a bigger club. That's life.
"There is no player in this country who wouldn't want to play for Manchester United.
"We are, without question, the highest profile team in the world. We have the best discipline record in the country. We score the most goals. We entertain the most. And we put more into winning a game than any other team in the world.
"I am lucky. I am working for the best club in the world."
Fergie, who mocked Wenger's claims of a power shift in English football following Arsenal's Double triumph, is clearly desperate to score some pyschological points before this year's big kick-off and restore United as the dominant force after last season's trophy- less campaign.
The Scot added: "Once you are successful you say, `Thank God people are giving us stick because then we know we're the best'.
"There's a price to pay for being the best and we pay it."
