"I'm very pleased that Laurent decided to stay on."

"I was watching the video of our Arsenal game in the second last match of the season and he was up and down that pitch. It was incredible.

"Laurent only had two rests from November against Derby and Ipswich and he had 'flu in another. I thought there would have been more opportunities to say to him 'do you want a break?' However, he wants to play all the time.

"And it will be the same again this season, no doubt. That is the admirable part about it.

"Laurent has been phenomenal. The respect he's got in the dressing room is immense.

"His reading of the game and his composure and control of situations when you are under the cosh and the way he brings the ball into midfield is marvellous.

"He brings a calm to it. I am just sorry I didn't sign him eight years ago when I first had the chance.

"He didn't take any persuading to stay on. It was one of those situations where he said he was going to retire and he changed his mind. He's changed his mind because he's enjoyed it."

Raoul, Evr heard of two sweeprers complementing each other?
Unless one adapts .i.e Rio learns to mark.
absolute flop of a partnership.
Do you disagree <img src="graemlins/angel.gif" border="0" alt="[Angel]" />

You've changed my mind. <img src="graemlins/annoyed.gif" border="0" alt="[Annoyed]" />

:(
In terms of game reading they would be unmatched imo. Tell me honestly, is that good or bad for the prem and cahampions league? :o

Will you ever give me a straight answer HMMMMMMM?  <img src="graemlins/annoyed.gif" border="0" alt="[Annoyed]" />

Isnt Hyypia-Henchoz sweepers??They have been quite succesful.

Going back to Kemo's point (or lack thereof). We're obviously looking at bringing Rio in, hence Fergie thinks that this is a situation that will work. Larry only has a year left, after which we'll be back in the transfer market again next year. Can't see how it wouldn't be a success.

The Kemotherapy worked then. ;)

For Da-Pain or whateva:

My opinion is consistent. In terms of game reading such a partnership is um matchable. But one on one a strikeforce with dribblers would take em apart due to lack of marking.

You ignore the brown/o'shea factor - this will be a crunch season for brown especially to prove his worth for that first team spot

Brown will only be back up for Gary Neville. After last season's antics. I will be suprised if Fergie keeps him as a centerback. Don't expect him to break in to the center at all. The pressure would be too much for him. O'shea will have the best chance and will always be Blanc's first choice replcement no matter who we bring in as a big name center back. He has handled the pressure as a young centerback at United best and he is better than Brown in the air.

What a load of nonsence. How many matches has O'Shea played? 5? Handled the pressure? When Brown played 5 matches we all thought he was terrific as well.

And I still think he'll come good. And he is NOT going to become right-back backup only. No way.

Remebr our injurty crisis of last seaqson when we cast O'shea into the deep end. Didn't he perform?

Brown was in at the deep end from day one.

1. Mistake versus Bolton.
2. Against Depo at Ot. His injury became a blessing in disguise.
3. Remember three one to Liverpool. He let Owen head the ball over him.
4. His now famous own goals of the season.
Need I say more Amir or your too much of A Brown sycophant? <img src="graemlins/annoyed.gif" border="0" alt="[Annoyed]" />

Well, Brown HAS to prove himself this season as he's already into his third season in the first team adn his performances will determine if we need to buy a centre-half when Blanc finally steps dowon next summer (unless of course fergie persuades him to stay on for a few more seasons ;) )

I believe brown will still get a chance or two from fergie to do so.

Yes whatever you say. Ignore the 'Brown/o'shea factor'.

Yes, John O'Shea performed well in his first few matches for the senior team (although part of the defensive improvement was Butt's installment in midfield). Brown has also done well in his first matches for United. Actually, he's done well whenever he played until late next season.

Your ridiculous comparison, however, is O'Shea's first matches in comparison to Brown's early performances this season. It's just not a right comparison! We all know Wes had problems and suffered a lot, but to put him behind John O'Shea just because O'Shea's first... errr... 2 matches and 10 minutes were good is idiotic.

Huh? <img src="confused.gif" border="0">

On this O'Shea thing - am I the only one who thinks he would benefit immensely from a season out on loan? Did no harm for Beckham. Got first team experience away from the cauldron of Old Trafford.
Central defence is possibly the toughest position to throw a young player into. Experience is essential.

I agree. Apart from a GK, centre backs are the most vulnerable. One mistake can be costly not just in terms of the match but also the players confidence. He needs first team football under his belt, this is probably best achieved at a lower level.

Hasn't O'Shea already been playing for a few months for Royal Antwerp?

Anyway, he's IMO to close to the first team to go on a loan. He'll be our first or second choice stand in CD.

I agree with you. The hype of O'shea is too high among some United fans but the fact is that Brown (if fit) will always be picked before O'shea (Fergie never picked O'Shea again since 2002). If we sign one more new defenders next season O'Shea's chance will be even more limited. It's better for him to gain first team experience else where than playing reserve matches for us.
