This is what our official site had as papertalk

"Rio Ferdinand's £25 million record-breaking move to Manchester United has been signed, sealed and will be delivered after the World Cup. Express Sport can reveal talks for Ferdinand's signature have gone a lot further than both sides have so far let on. The England and Leeds centre-half has been offered a contract amounting to wages of £25m over the seven years, making it one of the most lucrative in world football. Old Trafford director Maurice Watkins has sent Ferdinand a copy of the contract and the 23-year-old Peckham-born player now has his heart set on a move to the biggest club in the country.

Any comments????????????

That's bollocks.

I thought that with the new transfer ruling the longest contract a player can sign is 5 years?

LEEDS AND MANCHESTER UNITED SLAM RIO REPORT

LEEDS have reacted furiously to fresh speculation that England defender Rio Ferdinand is set for a shock £25 million move to Manchester United, who have also rejected the reports completely - the two clubs today issued a joint statement.
Wednesday's Daily Express claimed that negotiations over the proposed transfer of the 23-year-old international were at an advanced stage and that Ferdinand had been sent a copy of the proposed contract worth £25million over seven years.

The reports also suggested that Leeds still owed £4million to Ferdinand's former club West Ham. The centre-back moved to Elland Road from Upton Park in an £18million switch in November 2000 when he signed a five-and-a-half-year contract.

The two clubs took the unusual step of issuing a joint press release which states:

'The Daily Express today (Wednesday May 29th 2002) carried a story headlined “Rio’s a done deal” in which it was claimed that Rio Ferdinand’s transfer from Leeds to Manchester United had been “signed, sealed and will be delivered after the World Cup.”

The directors of Manchester United and Leeds wish to put the record straight. No deal has been struck between the clubs and contrary to the story in the Daily Express, Manchester United wish to point out that they have not made an illegal approach by forwarding a contract to Rio Ferdinand in Japan or a list of houses in Cheshire for his perusal.

Leeds Chairman Mr Ridsdale is happy to confirm that Rio Ferdinand is not for sale and is under contract to Leeds United for a further four years.

Leeds United are taking legal advice regarding the totally false allegation that £4 million remains outstanding from Rio Ferdinand’s transfer from West Ham.

Leeds paid West Ham £12 million on signing the player and the balance of the fee was paid in full, in accordance with Premier League regulations, on the first anniversary of Rio’s recruitment, last November.'

Yep, that article simply confirms the signing.

Hard luck sheep,

;)

29/05/02: Leeds United and Manchester United took the unusual step of issuing a joint statement to refute a newspaper claim that England defender Rio Ferdinand was switching clubs.

Today's Daily Express claimed that 23-year-old Ferdinand was set for a Stg£25 million move from Leeds to Manchester United.

The paper also said that Ferdinand, who is in Japan with the England World Cup squad, had been sent a copy of the proposed contract for a seven-year deal. It said he would be paid Stg£60,000 per week, rising to Stg£110,000 at the end of seven years.

The report also suggested that Leeds still owed Stg£4 million to Ferdinand's former club West Ham. Leeds said they were taking legal advice over the allegation.

The two clubs were quick to stamp on the story, issuing a joint statement, posted on the Leeds United website, which read:

"The Daily Express today (Wednesday May 29th 2002) carried a story headlined "Rio's a done deal" in which it was claimed that Rio Ferdinand's transfer from Leeds to Manchester United had been "signed, sealed and will be delivered after the World Cup.
