My console recently went Yellow light of death for me :(

anyone know of a fairly reputable console repairer they would refer me to?

Apparently I can send it to sony for $150 repaid ubt they wipe your harddrive

I'd like (if possible) for that not to happen

No idea but the same thing happened to me.

I bought a new one and sold the components on eBay (barring the motherboard which was the fried item I believe). Cost me about $150 in the end and I exchanged an old 40gb fat model for a 250gb slim model and I scored a PlayTV which I could still sell if I chose. BTW before you sell you old hardrive reformat it in your new PS3 to get rid of any of your data.

I didn't look very hard but I didn't find anyone cheap or reliable enough to bother trying to repair it. That said if you return it to Sony you may even score a new one. A friend of mine dropped their PS3 from a great height and they replaced it free under warranty. Obviously this doesn't mean they will do the same instead of repairing an old one for $150 but you never know.

That's cool

I'll have to investigate around. Don't really want to buy another console
def won't be selling parts
