Very clever. Suprised its taken this long for us to notice it.
Typical of the Simpsons early writers tbh. They were very, very clever writers who could craft adult jokes into a show fit for children. Take for example "Sneeds Seed and Feed, Formerly Chucks."

The first 12-14 season of the simpsons was pure gold. I could re-watch a majority of those episode without getting bored.
I fail to count how many times i've watched The Stonecutters episode. The new seasons have been a major letdown though. Its becoming a very slow and painful decline for arguably one of the greatest shows in the history of television.
They should end the episodes and concentrate on movies.

I agree, although even the Simpsons Movie was a let down, it promised so much with Spider Pig.
As you say those first 12-14 seasons are essential comedy viewing. Defined my childhood!
