Are GMail addresses banned?

A mate of mine has tried to sign up but the sign up page says he's banned. Yet he's never been on the site before. It gives a link to email the mods but the link is dead.

If any mods know what the problem is could they PM me or reply here.

not 100% sure and the other mods will probably confirm but I think hotmail, gmail and some other freemails are not allowed when registering
