He is the guy who stands on the halfway line passing to team mates 5 yards away...

I've heard he's fantastic for Ireland and I'm not disputing that...I'm just going on Sat's game..tho he clearly was not 100% fit

This isn't meant to be an attack on Keane, merely a question re the merits of the Irish team

k, i was talking about the game v holland, which you also mentioned above

ireland WERE pants on saturday, unimaginative, dull but even careless at the back. iran could've had two and prob. should've had one. but ireland panicked in front of goal on more than one occasion themselves and might've had about 3 or 4 too. iran made it very difficult in the first half of what was to be an incredibly tense affair, and they broke with some composure which would put the shits up anyone in a play-off match. roll on tehran, right now the result counts. re keano, he's usually immense for ireland, his organization, defending, and drive make up for any lack of creativity. definitely lifts the team around him every time.

I never thought I'd hear the phrase 'thank feck for Shay Given'... ;)

seriously. did well though. what's worse, during the first half i was screaming "USELESS" at kilbane and hankering for mark kennedy's return!

Kilbane always seems to head into 'blind alleys' - bless him cos he's married to my mate's daughter - but I know what you mean.

We miss Duff IMO.

Did you see the game against Holland? Disagree with saying Ireland were rubbish on Saturday. You could tell the amount of pressure on both teams Saturday night was immense. Iran, played nine men and the goalkeeper behind the ball. I felt sorry for Kilbane as he had two, sometimes three men stopping him from getting to the line to make any crosses, so the ball had to keep coming out to Harte to pump the ball into Niall Quinn who had two men bashing him any time a ball came in for him and another to head the ball away.

Iran are no Cyprus or Andorra or Leichtenstein, and anyone would be disingeniuos by saying so. They have some good players, their game plan nearly worked and credit has to go to them. Ireland were on a hiding to nothing going into the game and came out with a creditable result.

So, ok the game was no spectacle, but Ireland have had some good games leading up to this point notabley in Holland where we were unlucky not to beat the Dutch. Only a deflected long range effort from Van Bronckhurst with 3 minutes left got them an equaliser they scarcely deserved and to remain unbeaten against Portugal home and away suggests that Ireland are a better team than you saw on Saturday Davo.

Can I just add for future reference here that I didn't see the game vs Holland, thats why I'm asking how you beat them..

Please refrain from starting future posts with "Did you see the game vs Ireland Davo?"

Thanks

;)

OK, but did you actually see the Holland game? ;)

In any case, the game against Holland (in Dublin I missed because I got married that day). Double celebrations!

Saw highlights the next day and in fairness, I thought Ireland were blessed. That Ruud van Nistlerooy fella couldn't score in a brothel!!! ;)

Anyway, I knew we were going to beat them plus the missus wouldn't have spoken to me if I watched the match instead.

no need. ireland and the yanks are at times indeed rubbish (like england and scotland, germany... even brazil these days!) but on their day are a very hard to beat side, who, with carr, keano, and duff fit, are capable of beating any of the sides i've just mentioned, along with "over-achieving" against the supposedly superior sides e.g. portugal, holland (ahh yes even mighty italia in '94). wales, you would surely agree, are a different class of bin content.
