Could you recommend songs/artists similar to this one. Very soulful, sinister and romantic at the same time. I have a few Miles Davis and John Coltrane which are similar but apart from that I'm very new to this kind of slow jazz.

Can't say I know anything in the same vein.

However, I know something better:

watch out for Monk playing a chord with his elbow at 2:18.

Sounds like West Coast jazz; over-tones of 1960/70s. Unusual to hear violins so I call it cool jazz or jazz funk; personally, I'd call it pseudo-jazz. However, West Coast jazz had a superior quality lacking in Cool Jazz.

Funnily enough, this type of jazz was very popular as backing track or mood/romantic music for American tv/films of the time rather than listening music. It was more disposable; it was also a time when 1960s jazz was still strong and reigned supreme. TV series/films like 'Name of the Game', 'Midnight Caller", 'Taxi'.

If your looking for exponents of the xylophone/vibraphone then I'd recommend the likes of Lionel Hampton, Gary Burton, Chick Corea, Bobby Hutcherson, Herbie Hancock, Grover Washington, Roy Ayers and especially Bob James for you. I'd also add John Barry though his style was unique and dissimilar to LA Noire. His themes for The Ipress File, Out of Africa are very impressive.

I think Bob James and Bobby Hutcherson is the kindda music your looking for but the violins are missing.

Try these:

MIDNIGHT CALLER (1980s):

TAXI (Bob James):

TV series THE NAME OF THE GAME:

Fanstastico! Got the entire Miles Davis collection and a couple of other songs recommended.

On the side note, really miss playing LA Noir, was a good game with great soundtrack. Similar to how Vice City "Fever 105" made the 80s funk and disco era enjoyable.

Radio Los Santos in San Andreas was fantastic too.
