This is from the Russian language site www.israelfootball.com. They report that the Israeli newspaper Maariv says today: SAF wants buy from Haifa Nigerian striker Yakubu Aiyegbeni. They say he wants him ‘in this season’ and made an offer - $7-8 mln.

Please, Israeli guys tell us have they really written it? What’s a reputation of the Maariv? Are they the crapmakers or a respected newspaper? What exactly they’ve said?

Personally i cant see it coming off, I could always be wrong but to me it jsut sounds like a BS article to raise the profile of the player or football in Isreal or something to that effect.

Worth keeping an eye on.

United scout Mick Brown (has was at the game) told an Israeli newspaper today: "He didn't touch the ball the entire game but scored a hat trick. He doesn't seem to be at the highest level. The greek helped him with an un-organized defence. Their players should be put in jail for the way they played. It was outragous. Every day there's a new story about a player on his way to United. We're tired of answering to these stories. In his case, I find it hard to believe".

Yakubu's agent is one Pini Zehavi (yep, of the Rio saga), but I can't really see it happening anyway. Zehavi does tend to have plenty of nonsence written in newspapers just to get bigger interest in his player. Last summer, when Berkovic joined City, 'Maariv' had a story saying Real wanted him but went for Zidane instead because the Frenchman has a bigger name in the world of football

I don't think Yakubu's top drawr anyway. Just seems like a typical Israeli over-zealous type reporting.

sounds like a Pini Zehavi promotion for yet another of his players, but that doesn't mean the player doesn't have the potential.
He is a member of Nigeria's national squad, and he's still only 20.
He looks like Emile Heskey, but he has some knowledge of the game.
Forlan cost more than the 7-8m$ mentioned, and may I live long enough to see him score a CL hat-trick...
not a bad gamble IMO

I read this in the Express.

Apparently he is rated as one of the best striking prospects in world football and when the transfer window re-opens a number of clubs will be chasing him. But of course he is after a move to the Premiership and Man Utd in particular.

He almost signed for Derby but was ONE GAME short of getting a work permit. To help Derby Fergie was supposed to have written a letter explaining how this lad is one of the brightest prospects in the world and how he is a future star. They didnt buy it - wudnt let them off one game cos Derby are nationwide league.

Now he is eligible and we need some fire power, we're said to be after him rather than helping him join Derby. I believe thats the fullest story you will get folks, not a popular one this.

I wonder if Fergie really wrote that letter...
