Heard a dipper last week and he said the dippers clearly outnumber the Reds on the Emerald Island. How do you see it?

I would say they probably do. Dublin has a masive Pool support, Cork probably more United fans.

well I seem to meet a hell of a lot more Scumpool fans here than United. Not complaining really, makes it all the sweeter at times like this :)

No way, Dublin is 50/50 with us and the scum at the very least. Remeber when Souness took over and started dismantling the Pool and Leeds won the league?? I never saw so many Leeds fans after that and now that Liverpool are winning a few cups they've changed back. The diehards give out on this forum about the glory hunters but they hav'nt got a patch on the ABU's who seem to change with the wind. If you look in the papers on a tuesday or wednesday (I think) and look at the amount of UTD supporters clubs, they outnumber every other club. :D

up north theres certainly more united supporters clubs than liverpool ones. On the streets theres noticably more kids wearing united tops than liverpool ones.

Liverpool is full of Irish. Why wouldn't there be a big following in Ireland? Some people call Liverpool the capital of Ireland.

I´d take that as an offence if I was Oirish.

Good job you're not then, cos I take it as gospel ;)

Glasgow can also be considered the real capital of Ireland, and Rangers are of course immensly popular in Ireland.

LFC are the proddie side of Liverpool, Everton the Irish side.
Evwerton are traditionally the best supported Liverpudlian side in Ireland, in 60, 70's & 80's the Dublin Hollyhead ferry was full of Everton fans heading over for the games.

The majority of the black and tans (english ww1 veterans sent to Ireland to rape, pillage, shoot wildly into a crowded croke park, that sort of thing) were Liverpudlians and Liverpool FC are in the eyes of any Irish man that knows his a footballing represantative of the Black and tans.

Thats why i hate Liverpoll and will allways go for Everton in the Derby.

FWIW, I think far more people support Liverpool in Dublin than Utd.
As a kid in the early 80's to early 90's i was the only person who supported Utd in my class. It was a privilege to meet other Utd supporters!

Nowadays, it's still a Liverpool majority here, but without any Irish players at the 'pool since McAteer and Babb (is it any wonder they were so crap!), Utd's support levels have grown a lot in the last 5 years.

I'd put it at 40%-30% in favour of 'pool. 30% support other teams - Leeds, Arsenal (v. little support here) and Tottenham.

liverpool most, united second, arse third - a distant third

most people over 20 support liverpool and most under 20 support united

Listen. Cork is the real capital. End of story.
The four main teams supported over here as far as I can see are Utd,Pool,Leeds and Arse. The percentages vary, one way it changes is from generation to generation.....

Majority of young fans are Utd.
Majority my age , hitting 30 are de Pool....

Celtic?

When i was last in cork walking down the street the teams that poped up the most would be utd and celtic with maybe a few newcastle fans about...

I talked to my cousins about it and they seemed to think that it had a lot todo with religion (eg, celtic, utd) being catholic clubs but I dont think its that black and white...

The only time the dippers outnumbered the United fans in Ireland was in the early 1920's when they all joined the black and Tans and came over for a bit of rape & pillage.

Liverpool = Black & Tans (sworn enemy of Ireland)

Like Celtic in Glasgow Everton are the Irish club of Liverpool and Pool the Rangers equivalent.

Most irish Liverpool fans dont realise this until their too old to turn back, ive a mate who says hed love to be able to change as its a wrench for him to be a Pool fan. But he tries not to dwell on it (i help him along with it ;) ) and puts a lot of hios considerable weight behind Celtic to ease his conscience.

There are definitely more United Fans than Liverscum fans in Ireland! I can name 10 United fans of all ages for every 1 Scumpool fan I know!

Everton are the irish side of Liverpool, face it.
Its all the rage to be irish so i can understand Liverpool trying to get in on the act.
You stole YAWN form Celtic (youse can keep it btw) and now youse are trying to steal the huddle and "The fields of Athenry"

The Black & Tans were made up of a large amount of Liverpudlians, which means LFC represent the band of mercenaries that were sent to Irielan din the 1920's. Ive heard several stories, direct from witnesses of the stuff they did.

Good topic, (from an Irish perspective) I'm 21 now, and in IMO Ireland is a fickle country for football supporting in general. I mean, did the Irish invent the term ABU? 95% of the country are United, Liverpool or ABU, the other 5% are the Arsenals, Newcastles etc.. I've seen many a person change teams over the years, sad stuff but true. I think most modern day supporters of United in Ireland support the brand and not the football club. Very little knowledge of pre '95. People tag themselves to a team as they are perfectly entitled to do, but naturally you can blame the success on that, and in Ireland it's the team of the moment that does it for the majority. Every United supporter in Ireland right now is well up on the 'treble' team, but try them on the frustrating eighties or even the glorious early nineties, I'd say half are stuck for answers there. In some ways it makes me understand the massive Liverpool support over here nowadays, they had success in the eighties so those closet fans have stuck around, silent nineties but have re-emerged now. they've all come out of nowhere since they sniffed success with the plastic treble! But I sense the majority of the new wave of United fans will stick around and ultimately there will be a fine balance between balance of support for the two teams in Ireland in the coming years. The fights in pubs lately have been very funny. Pool fans seem to have difficulty in accepting they have peaked under Houllier and just like their team are 'ultra defensive' of the French eyeballer. 'kin wankers!
