Alright lads, I've started to listen to some good old Gaelic folk tunes and am quite impressed. I mean I've always liked that style of music, but I've now decided to actively download some tunes.

I'm looking for anything really, but symphonic tunes would be my preference - tunes akin to this:

So, anyone got any suggestions?

Look for anything by the Chieftains.

Not my personal taste but I know they are pretty renowned, may have some symphonic stuff not too familiar with their back catalogue.

Your Music there is obviously very instrumental - Try some Clannad or Enya for that. Another would be Paddy Maloney of the Chieftains

Chieftains
Clannad
The Dubliners
The Furey Brothers
The Clancy Brothers
Celtic Women
The High Kings
Anuna
Sharon Shannon

Here is one of all time favorites - Liam O'Maonlai

Irish folk is shit, IMO.

Not a very helpful reply, but then it's not very good music.

jaysus lads ... all a bit twee ... Planxty and Lunasa are great ...

what have you been listening to CM ?

Sharon Shannon is great ... best album for pure trad is one called 'Tunes' she did a few years ago

Paul Brady did an album called The Liberty Tapes years ago ... is Mint.

Band called Mozaik , (lads in their 50's from a few different countries) founded by Andy Irvine from Planxty have a couple of crackingb albums

The Dubliners have some great songs but if it's the music you want I'd look elsewhere.

Damien Dempsey has done an album of his favourite Irish songs called 'The Rocky Road To Dublin'

they are the pits , the staple crap for Irish Americans, always available in Airport CD stores.

isn't that the music from Last Of The Mohicans?

actually i've just noticed the word 'symphonic' in the first post ... ignore all I said and buy a riverdance cd.

Cheers lads.

I stumbled across Aruna on my search but it seems there stuff is hard to come by on emule (the program I use to download). Their/her stuff is great from what I've heard so far.

And yeah that song is from the Last of the Mohicans.

horrible stuff, overproduced nonsense, about as far removed from traditional as could be ... although indirectly it has helped the more obscure trad music, the riverdance tours have financed the trad industry this last decade or so, I know personally of 5 studios built with riverdance wages.

You'll have to get yourself one of these Cesc

Girl I was in Uni with sang with Anuna. She was a massive pain in the arse. Almost as annoying as listening to their fecking awful music.

she wasn't called emer was she?

Yes!

Feck me. Small world :nervous:

Just in case she's a friend of yours I didn't really dislike here, she was ok I suppose. Just a bit swotty, which bothered me, as an immature twat. She did put my nose seriously out of joint once, though, by joining in - and winning - a fantasy football league I was playing in, a few years back :nono:

To be fair, she never tried to hide her roots in the la.

That's the last time I'm ever slagging off anyone from Ireland on here. Far too fecking small a country to be doing that kind of thing.

She was a swot though, I stand by that comment!

There's really no need to bring Neil Lennon into this.

EDIT: This makes no sense now that Pogue's a 'cheater, cheater, post-deleter'.

Yeah, bottled that one, I'm afraid.

Even though I've established I haven't offended Moses (much) it's all getting a bit too close to home for me.

Fecking Irish people and the two degrees of separation, or whatever it is these days.

I'm just putting on a brave face
