MUFC Champions 2006/2007: Where will the goals com
As i said earlier in a previous post, there's a few gooners who reckon Henry is better now or, has the potential to be better, than the King Eric Cantona in his golden years <img src="graemlins/lol.gif" border="0" alt="[Laugh Out Loud]" /> <img src="graemlins/lol.gif" border="0" alt="[Laugh Out Loud]" /> <img src="graemlins/lol.gif" border="0" alt="[Laugh Out Loud]" />
How many more gooners share this view as i'd love to know <img src="graemlins/lol.gif" border="0" alt="[Laugh Out Loud]" />

What do you mean by better?

Score more goals? Win more games? Turn games around? Inspire the team?

Henry definately has the potential to do all of this. He is pretty much the complete player and probably no way near his peek.

Skill wise Henry is relatively complete. What he lacks is the fight, the ability to turn things around. This he will probably never have.

I'll take this as a serious question and answer accordingly. To be honest, most Gooners will either compare Henry to current EPL strikers or past Arsenal heroes. No one (well no Gooner I'd know)would think of comparing him to Cantona.I'm not sure it's that interesting.Don't get me wrong.Cantona was truly a great player...as is Henry...but then ..so is Best/Law/Charlton.It's academic really.And.ultimately,it's down to personal opinion.

If you really want my view,Henry is the best striker since Van Basten (surely, even you Mancs would give Van Basten his due ?)...maybe Henry will better him...too early to say.

Actually,I'd say Cantona is better compared to Bergkamp and frankly ,I'd be hard pressed to say who's best between those two.So there you go,you pays your money and you take your choice.

That's considered a delicacy in North London.

IMO, Van Basten is the best striker of the modern era, and it really will take something special to match him. Henry is NOT the best striker since van Basten mainly down to the fact that he is not a striker in the truest sense of the word. Ruud is a better striker than Henry. Also, i'd expect the "best striker since van Basten" would be able to head the ball.

I like Thierry Henry (not only because he is a dish) but because he seems a decent man even if he can get a little over-sensitive on the pitch about the refereeing or opposition players.

He has all the technique and he does not give up -
I remember that EUEFA Cup Final against Galatasaray where Arsenal should have won (I wish they had, given the repulsive and disgraceful fans of that Turkish club and the club`s toleration of their thug tactics. Henry busted his guts to try and get that all important goal and had every right to feel devastated after the game.

If he develops the killer instinct that I feel he still lacks - watch out! I am just grateful he is not the complete striker yet.

Yeah okay maybe he doesn't have the fight.

But he has the skill and panache to make up for it.

The last thing I would say about him is he lacks the ability to turn things round.

He's got va-va-voom. ;)

That's not to say he is any better (or worse) than your boy Eric

Van basten is box player Henry is not and never will be, he relys on pace and taking players on, once that goes he will go downhill, Whereas Ruud is more similar to Van basten in that he is a box player, and he will be able to adapt his game when he gets older, like shearer (pisspot) does now or Sheringham.

Shearer has still got a shot in him, henry has not, he likes to curl the ball more often than not.

IMO the best striker partnerships would be Henry and Ruud or Ruud and Cisse (still in the french league) in the future.

i just read about praise of Ruud being comparable to Van Basten, but Henry?! Nah!!

U are spot on, gulli_G.

Here's what Ruud Gullit said about our Ruud, 'one of the highest accolades i could give Ruud is to compare him with Marco Van Basten. Marco had everything a striker could possess-strength, determination, and a brillant eye for Goal. Rudd is the same'

And that's quite a high compliment from a holland legend!

And what if he faces another player with just as much va va voom? Rivaldo? Ronaldo? Zidane? Cannavaro? Even our own (dare I say it?) Silvestre?

He chokes, thats what. So he will have trouble delivering when it really matters.
