Hey wythy!!!!! Welcome aboard the Canadian xpress..........I know how you feel.......The feckers who control what goes on tv should be shot in the bolloks.....Doesn't matter what happens...they have to screw around with someone!!!! Keep the faith!!!!! "KEEP THE RED FLAG FLYING HIGH"

My local TV listing shows it at 9 p.m. on TSN (Mountain time). Are you in Toronto Wyth? If so, you should be receiving it at 11, not 11.30!

Up until March this year I was in Kenya (called a Third world country by the West) and used to receive all Champions league matches free via national TV. Now I have moved to Canada (a developed and industrialized country) and I can't watch a decent match live - mind you even after paying for it!!

Most pubs have ESPN 2. Shouldn't be a problem watching it live.

Just west of Toronto, mate. Here's what I got from www.soccertv.com :

Semifinal 2nd Leg
Bayer Leverkusen (Germany) vs Manchester United (England)
ESPN2 (US)
RDS (Canada)
Tu Apr 30 2:30pm ET/11:30am PT LIVE
TSN (Canada)
Tu Apr 30 11:30pm ET/8:30pm PT SDD *** note schedule change ***

Who knows with these muppets, by tomorrow it could be something else. :( I'll look for a pub with an ESPN2 feed.

Half the homes in Missassauga and Scarborough have DirecTV dishes. Find a long lost friend and pop in for a couple of hours. ;)

Both these services were recently declared illegal by the Canadian Supreme Court. We have to rely on either Bell ExpressVu or Starchoice. Neither of them offer ESPN or ESPN2.

Last time I was there (last month) they were still considered 'Grey Market'. Technically illegal, but not enforcable since home owners have the right to claim owner ship of the airspace on their property. In Woodbridge, there are advertisements on the street for free DirecTV installation etc.

I suspect that won't be for much longer:

April 27, 2002 Grey market dishes illegal, court rules Middlemen facing RCMP crackdown Ian Jack National Post OTTAWA - Hundreds of thousands of Canadians are breaking the law when they get their satellite TV from anyone other than ExpressVu or StarChoice, the Supreme Court of Canada ruled yesterday. In a unanimous ruling, it overturned a lower court that said there was nothing in Canadian law to prevent consumers from tapping into foreign -- mainly U.S. -- satellites using equipment bought from Canadian vendors.

I'll have to find some nice, cosy pub with an illegal feed ;)

That's one of the most ridicilous rulings I've ever heard. How can they rule that you can't aim your dish wherever you want ?

You can point your dish wherever you want to. The problem is the receiver card which is "illegally" programmed.

Just checked the TSN website and it said the game is on at 2:30PM Eastern Standard Time.

Peltz :)

Ok, that quote from the ruling didn't say that :)

This is not the reason they were banned! I think it was Bell Vu who filed the case because the Grey market was eating into their market. If it was the illegal cards it should be the US satellite stations that should be suing.

It's actually a bit of both. The US satellite companies don't have any authority over the Canadian users so they resort to zapping the card every five minutes. Bell Express Vu (and IMO Shaw Cable too) filed cases, as there are hundreds of thousands Canadians using the "grey area" dishes. I had the satellite until very recently, but got fed up as it was going down almost every day. Everything is still connected, however I don't think that constitutes an illegal act unless you get caught using the illegally programmed card.

Yup, I dont think the law enforcers will be targeting endusers, only the middlemen.

Thank the CRTC for that. Crap. They cost me $6.5 per wireless phone for the use of their air space. Thanks Canada. You want satilite or digital TV? Be prepared to buy a package of 7 sports channels just so you will get Fox Sports World. It's a requirement by law ( ;) ) that every Canadian must watch curling or face a prison sentence! i'm tired of having to tape CL matches because they are on at 3:30am ET.

Hey federal government. I guess free trade and NAFTA had nothing in it for TV viewers. If it was up to me, I'd get rid of the CRTC. They are keeping of TV service in the dark ages. Atleast grey and black market satilite systems are providing some alternative. But, it looks as if the feds are going to clamp down on the dealers.
