EXCLUSIVE: Tottenham And Aston Villa Target Radamel Falcao Learning The Language In Preparation For A Move To England, Reveals Father - Goal.com

Colombian striker dreams of playing in the Premier League...

Porto's £15 million-rated striker Radamel Falcao is dreaming of a move to England and welcomes the interest of Premier League clubs including Tottenham and Aston Villa, according to his father.

The 24-year-old Colombian international, who is his club's top scorer this season with 31 goals, has an ambition to play in the English top flight and his father, Radamel Garcia, told Goal.com UK he is already learning the language to enhance his chances.

One of the hottest properties in European football, Falcao has attracted the attention of various clubs around Europe but it is with English football that his hopes rest. So much so that he would even consider joining a club that is not in the Champions League.

Both Harry Redknapp's Tottenham side — who this week sealed qualification for Europe's premier competition — and Martin O'Neill's Aston Villa have been linked with moves for the player in recent months. Liverpool also reportedly tried to sign Falcao last summer, and his father admits the player will consider all offers made to him.

“All his life he has wanted to play in English football," Garcia told Goal.com UK.

"I’ve heard and read that there are English clubs interested, but I don’t know if it’s true. He’s very attracted by the idea of playing in English football.

“A footballer always wants to go to the best team. It depends on the possibilities. He will listen to the best offer and see what suits him best.

"He also finds the Italian and Spanish leagues attractive. It depends on the club. But he hopes it’s in English football.

“If it’s a team in the Champions League he’ll play in the Champions League, if it’s one that’s not in the Champions League he can play there. It depends which club gives him the best chance to play in English football.

“I don’t know if there’s been any contact from clubs. I only know from what I’ve seen in Portuguese and English newspapers, but nothing concrete has come out yet."

Despite the lack of official contact from interested parties, Falcao has already begun preparing for a move to England, doing all he can to ensure he adapts to his potential new surroundings as quickly as possible.

“He speaks some English. He’s been learning it for five or six years," Garcia revealed.

"In Portugal he has English classes every afternoon. He’s preparing for the possibility of going to England.

“He watches English football on TV a lot. He watches all the matches. He likes Wayne Rooney a lot and liked Thierry Henry when he was there."

Garcia himself was also a professional footballer in Colombia. His son, who is named after Brazilian legend Falcao, gave notice of his own talent in 2008, as he starred for River Plate by leading the Argentinian club to the Clausura championship with 19 goals.

In total he scored 34 goals in 88 appearances for River, before joining Porto in the summer of 2009. Despite a disappointing campaign for the traditional Portuguese powerhouses — which has seen both Benfica and Braga muscle them out of the title race — Garcia admits his son has been well looked-after at Estadio do Dragao.
"He’s treated very well at Porto, they are marvellous people, and it’s not a problem if he stays there," he said.

"The club will decide. If an offer comes in, finances can affect a lot of things. He has a four-year contract, but of course if they receive offers they have to decide, the club and him.”

“He’s not spoken to anyone in England for advice as far as I’m aware. But he’s always learning a lot and that helps him adapt to European football.

“He was young when he went to Buenos Aires, he was just 15, and it’s helped him to adapt quickly to football in different countries.

“Of course in England he would have to get used to a lot of things, the style of play. But he knows how to attack and how to move in different ways, so he can adapt to a different style.”

I think he'd do well in the Prem, interesting as well that he wants to come to England as his first choice.

Oh I thought it was Keanu Reaves character in The Replacements.

Widely regarded as the best player in Portugal along with Di Maria! Would do well in the premiership for sure! I wouldnt mind him at United if Berbs leaves!

Not going anywhere for less than 30.

He is small and quick and has a phenomenal goalscoring record with 25 goals in 28 games last season and Porto would want around £15million.

Bollocks. 15 million? He's worth a lot more, we'd never sell him for anywhere near that. He's one of the best goal-poachers around. I don't think his style suits the Premier League very well, but he's top-quality nevertheless.

So how much do you think Porto would want? will they want the same sort of money a top striker from La Liga or Serie A would cost, in the same way Ajax are after £35M for Suarez?

I think yes, definitely around the 30 million (euros) mark at the very least, considering he's our most important player right now and we are not interested in selling him.

Being a selling club requires planning, or else it's impossible to maintain a minimally competitive team. We have players that are a bit unsettled at the moment but have some market value (Meireles, Bruno Alves) and the goal is to sell these, probably around the €15M mark each and France being the most likely destiny for them. This process is carefully planned and the replacements are already thought of and hired.

A player like Falcao has quality and margin to be sold at the next year for the same value (or even more) than we would get this season, so the idea is to capitalize on his value to the team (i.e., goals) some time more. He seems very happy at the team right now. It would require an offer well above his perceived market value (something like Chelsea or City could do and have done in the past) for us to consider selling him now.

That is pretty understandable I guess, I think that is why some of the proposed transfers from leagues deemed weaker have stalled, the buying clubs valuation of the player is based off the strength of the league, where as the selling club are using the players worth to the team as their guide for valuation, I think this is the main reason why Suarez and Di Maria are still unsold.

Got 4 goals tonight in a 5-1 win against Villareal, (Europa League Semi, 1st leg)

He's a true #9, his game is very similar to Hernandez and I think it's inevitable that he is bought in the summer.

First team that came to my mind when I saw the thread title was Spurs. They are the ones in desperate need for a top striker.

If Berba does go, wonder if Fergie is up for a sneaky bid?

Really doubt it.

Rooney tends to have an injury each season and we need to cope without him for a few months. Before the Rooney and Hernandez partnership, we saw Hernandez and Berbatov scoring goals together and playing well together. Really thats our backup strikeforce right now and its better than most team's first choice strikeforce.

With Berbatov out and Falcao in we'd end up with 2 strikers who really couldnt play together. And the other striker is the one who tends to have injuries... Besides if we needed a striker, there are few better than Cavani.

As Ekeke says Falcao is too similar to Hernandez. Cavani has scored something like 34 goals this season and is more rounded.

Out of curiosity, how many goals have Berba and Chicha scored in tandem?

The latest chatter on Twitter is Hulk has already agreed to a move but the two sides are keeping the news under lock and key until their seasons are over.

Can Porto afford to lose Falcao and Hulk? Who would be their replacements? Anyone is Portugal know...?

I remember being linked with him a few seasons back. Maybe as early as the summer Tevez left for MCFC.

I thought I heard Madrid were after him.

He's a proper striker, scores goals for fun, and he's both footed too.

I hope Arsenal don't get him. I could see him getting 35+ a season with them. He's probably their ideal striker when you think about it.

He's a great striker and will do well wherever he goes. Hope its not to one of our league rivals because that could be a problem. Arsenal I can't imagine spending so much in a position that is not in need of urgent remedy, their priorities need to be defense and possibly midfield should they sell a few players.

He's a fantastic finisher but shouldn't be relied on to take large part in the build up. A proper forward who would do well here.

Think Spurs would do extremely well to pick him up. With a 4-5-1 all they'd ask is he score and that's what he'd do. Arsenal on the otherhand want their strikers to assist in the build up.

Big difference between the PL and the Portuguese leages in terms of standard.

A Ronaldo or a Messi might get 35 goals a season over here but hardly anyone else.

Would be very surprised if anyone paid the money being touted for him, despite his goal scoring record.

Rocky Falcao :smirk:

I'll get my coat.

Actually more than Arsenal, he would be a better fit for Spurs.

He would be a backup to Van Persie at Arsenal, although RvP's injury record is such that despite being a backup, he might play more matches than him.

There's the possibility that Fabregas leaves and RVP is dropped back into the hole behind the striker to replace him, rather than try and find a new Fabregas. With a striker, in this case Falcao, replacing him up front. He scored against Arsenal this season I remember
