Never knew that....either about his name, or the leg break.

Ta.

My main concern about Brandy is that he's pretty small for a striker. He's got the flair to make up for it, but it's sort of harder for small players to make a breakthrough into first team football.

I know Brandy got a lot of hype when he was younger (14/15). He's got good potential, pacey and good technically but there are very similar players ahead of him in the queue, i.e. Rossi and Rooney, and Brandy offers nothing different to these players.

I think he might get a chance on the wing but agree with you in the main.

playing tonight for England under 18's on Sky Sports 2.

Been Englands best player.

He hasn't been injured and has featured regularly for the Under 18's this season.......

Looks to have grown quite a few inches this season.

I think he meant when he had his foot stamped on during the game ;)

There were some impressive youngsters in that game, notably Brandy, the Sunderland bloke and another one. Should probably have wrote their names down.

How about Frazier (Campbell) was he included?? The youth team set up are supposed to rate him very highly!!!

Febian Brandy

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson feels Febian Brandy's loan spell at Swansea City will stand the young striker in good stead for the future.

Having signed on loan at the Liberty Stadium until the end of the season, Sir Alex has been keeping a close eye on the progress of his rising young star.

And despite his recent dismissal at Bristol Rovers, Britain's most successful manager (apart from Roberto!) has been pleased with his progress at the Swans.

"We've been monitoring Febian's progress from Old Trafford,'' explained Sir Alex. "I also watched him for myself play live on Sky in Swansea's JPT tie against MK Dons.

"I know he's been used mostly as a substitute, but the reports I've had from Swansea manager Roberto Martinez have been good. He has said he's done very well for them.

"From Febian's point of view it's been good for him to join a successful club in League One. It's good experience for him.''

Manchester United and new England skipper Rio Ferdinand has also been keeping in close contact with the 18-year-old.

"Sir Alex and Rio have just told me to enjoy the experience,'' explained Brandy. "And that's what it is - experience.

"I was bitterly disappointed when I was sent off at Bristol Rovers, especially when I felt it wasn't a red card. But having taken time out to think about it, I realised it was all part of the learning process.

"I'm still a young lad and it was the first time I had ever been sent-off in my career. But I know that an experience like that is one of the reasons why I've gone out on loan.''

As it happened, Brandy's three-match ban coincided with the England Under-19 international picking up a calf injury.

But having served his suspension and recovered from the calf problem, Brandy is now looking to finish the season with a flourish.

"I didn't really know anything about Swansea before I came,'' he added. "I had an offer to go on loan to Norwich, a Dutch club and a few others, but Sir Alex recommended Swansea. I'm glad he did because I've really enjoyed it here.

"Obviously I would have liked a few more starts, but the manager knows what he's doing and I've just got to wait for my chance.

"I'm just glad I've been able make an impact coming off the bench by winning a couple of penalties and scoring a few goals myself.

"But it's not about me. It's about the team doing well and I'll be delighted if I can say I played a part in Swansea's success at the end of the season.

"I firmly believe Swansea can do well in the Championship. The players have the ability to play at a higher level and, just as important; they play the game the right way - on the deck.

"I just hope I can play a part in the last six games and help the Swans finish the job.''

Coming off the bench winning penalties and getting a few goals is all well and good, but he needs to be a regular starter next term. A summer in the gym(tm) will hopefully see him overtaking his rivals for a place in the starting XI. He has talent, pace and ability, but there's a lot missing from his game. Regular football at a high level is just what the doc ordered.

Thanks for the article, Drifter.

Did he play on the wing for Swansea at all? He seems to have added a bit of muscle but he's an absolute midget.

BTW, did he ever celebrate like this for the academy/reserves?

The Sunday Mirror says City chairman Huw Jenkins is hoping United will accept his offer for the 19-year-old - even though the Reds did snub an approach from Barcelona for Brandy last summer after he had scored the winning goal against Juventus in the Champions Youth Cup Final.

barcelona wanted brandy ... really ?

loan back to swansea most likely

Some quality journalism here:

FEBIAN Brandy could be on his way out of United after Cardiff tabled a £1million bid.

The youngster impressed on a loan spell with the Bluebirds and could make the move permanent.

Five other young reserve team players will leave at the end of the month.

Michael Barnes, Sean Evans and Michael Lea have been released, plus Ritchie Jones, who made five first-team appearances, and Kieran Lee, whose three senior outings included a Premier League start at Chelsea in May 2007.

Lee has already been snapped up by Oldham, leaving the other four to find new clubs.

Bloody hell. That thing about Barca is interesting though. I really hope he'll be a big hit for Swansea next season. And I hope Danny Shitu man-marks him when they face Watford

Swansea City boss Roberto Martinez is ready to use the services of Manchester United striker Febian Brandy for another season on-loan at the Liberty Stadium.

The 19-year old striker was mostly used as a substitute during his last five-month tenure on-loan last season. But the Swans boss is impressed with the England Under-19 international and has no doubts about his abilities.

"Febian settled in straight away when he came to us," he told Swansea's official website. "He loved every second of his time here and you could see him improving every day."

"He was slowly fulfilling the Premier League potential he has and now we are waiting for the go-ahead to sign him on a season-long loan. I have spoken to Febian about it and I know he is very keen to come back."
