The FIA have announced in-season engine development will be allowed until at least the end of the 2019 season.

A token system at the start of 2015 was introduced to allow in-season upgrades to be brought to the power units after Ferrari discovered a loophole in the regulations.

A decreasing number of development tokens will be allowed each season, with 32 allowed in 2016, decreasing to 15 in 2019.

In addition, token levels have been set for new engine manufacturers entering the sport after Honda were given an average of the number Mercedes, Renault and Ferrari had remaining by Australia this year. That figure was worked out at nine.

In the future, a new manufacturer will be allocated 15 tokens in their first year, and 32 in their second.

Power unit tokens allowed for in-season development

2016 - 32

2017 - 25

2018 - 20

2019 - 15

New manufacturers

First year - 15

Second year - 32

The rules have also been tweaked to allow power units homologated in previous seasons to be re-homologated. Previously, no manufacturer could supply more than one specification of power unit.

This allowed the FIA to approve Ferrari supplying a fourth customer team, thought to be Toro Rosso, with a 2015 engine next year.

I doubt they'd do it, but:

'Despite Hamilton's pre-eminent position as the three-time world champion - winning the past two titles with Mercedes - he is not seen as a team player in a squad governed by the team ethic,' wrote Kevin Eason in The Times.

'His complaining over the past three races won by Rosberg is said to have grated on senior Mercedes executives and even irritated the engineers close to Hamilton.

'It seems that Hamilton is testing the patience of the Mercedes hierarchy to the limit. They have spent almost two years attempting to smooth the increasingly fragile relationship between Hamilton and Rosberg'.

It's hard to argue with that, he's repeatedly ignored instructions and he was pretty vocal about the team wanting Nico to get 2nd place in the WDC etc, he's far from a team player.

That said, he's by far the better driver, so if they were to get rid of one it'd almost certainly be Nico.

I tend to agree with you, but German team , with a German driver who seems to give them no trouble and gets on with the job or stay with the better English driver who has a habit to thrown his dummy and toys out of his prom on a regular basis.
Lewis's contract run out at the end of next season and Nico's has 2 years to run.

Changes to F1's tyre regulations to encourage differing race strategies in 2016 have been approved by the FIA.

Pirelli will now nominate three dry compounds rather than two for race weekends. The Italian firm will allocate two sets of tyres for the race (only one of which must be used) and one set of the softest nominated tyre compound that can only be used in Q3.

Each driver will then be able to choose 10 further sets from the three compounds to take their weekend allocation to 13.

Originally, Force India had put forward a proposal that would allow them to pick a compound of their choice in 2016.

The rule requiring drivers to use at least two different compounds of dry tyres in a race, unless intermediates of wets have been used, remains in place.

In 2016 Pirelli's existing supersoft (red), soft (yellow), medium (white) and hard (orange) compounds will be joined by a fifth ultrasoft (purple) compound. This will become the softest tyre in the range.

If Mercedes are going to get rid of anyone it should be Toto, that man annoys me. Then let the drivers have their own strategist and everything and actually race each other. Bringing in a better driver than Nico ie. Alonso would make Hamilton vs Rosberg look tame in comparison, and if they bring in a number 2 driver then it'll make things even more boring and cost them results, pretty sure they wouldn't have gotten as many of their all-important, must-not-be-jeopardised-at-any-cost 1-2s with a Webber/Kimi in the second car.

Hamilton's contract is til 2018, Rosberg's runs out at the end of next year. They'd have to pay Hamilton a monumental amount to get rid of him for 2017.

Would love them to build this, it looks fantastic.

McLaren have revealed a concept F1 car, the MP4-X

Woking team say car is a 'unique conceptual take on motor racing's future'; "That is one sexy bit of kit," adds Jenson Button

McLaren have revealed a concept F1 car, the MP4-X, which they say is a 'unique conceptual take on motor racing's future'.

According to the Woking team, the car 'looks visually striking, but it is beneath the skin where the changes are most apparent.

'MP4-X is designed to harness alternative power sources; the chassis changes shape to adapt to different aerodynamic demands; and it can communicate in the event of a failure or a problem'.

"With the futuristic McLaren MP4-X concept racecar, we wanted to peer into the future and imagine the art of the possible," said John Allert, Group Brand Director, McLaren Technology Group.

"We have combined a number of F1's key ingredients - speed, excitement and performance, with the sport's emerging narratives - such as enclosed cockpits to enhance driver safety, and hybrid power technologies.

"Formula 1 is the ultimate gladiatorial sport, and the future we envisage will be a high tech, high performance showcase that excites fans like no other sport."

Jenson Button's reaction was more to the point. "That is one sexy bit of kit, when can I drive it?!" the McLaren driver tweeted, adding "This is my Christmas bonus right?!"

McLaren are not the first team to take a peek into the future - or how they think it will look. Ferrari unveiled their own concept car earlier this year, as have Red Bull with their designer Adrian Newey.

It's a "unique concept" that looks a lot like the Red Bull X1 from Gran Turismo!

Looks cool though.

breaks down and doesn't get into the 2nd round of qualifying.

on a serious note anyone know if the have any intentions of making the engines sound better than a dyson.

hope to make montreal - great race , great city.

Wouldn't be surprised to see him retire at the end of next year, especially if he wins the title. He's talked previously about quitting whilst young and he'll be free to live his pop star lifestyle, with 4 titles and nothing to prove to anyone

I would be hugely shocked if he did retire,I am sure he will want to try and beat Schumacher's 5 on the bounce , which will be extremely difficult and /or his record of 7 wins.

Red Bull have finally resolved their F1 future by confirming a deal to run TAG Heuer-branded engines in 2016 after realigning their relationship with Renualt.

After one of the biggest U-turns in recent F1 history, Red Bull will continue to be supplied by Renault next season but the V6 power unit will not carry the French manufacturer's name.

Instead, long-time McLaren sponsor TAG Heuer have bought the naming rights to the engine with next season's car to be christened the Red Bull Racing-TAG Heuer RB12.

It emerged last month that the Swiss watchmaker was switching its F1 sponsorship allegiances from McLaren to Red Bull in 2016.

"TAG Heuer and Red Bull are two transcendent brands which have both a passion for racing and a drive to do things differently, and this unique collaboration is further evidence of that," said team boss Christian Horner.

"TAG Heuer has been an icon in the world of Formula 1 for many years and we're delighted that they've chosen to continue their association with the sport by teaming up with us. Our shared values of innovation and a desire to stand out from the crowd make this one of the most exciting partnerships in F1.

"We are also pleased to see Renault confirm its long-term commitment to F1 and would like to thank them for their contribution to the team since 2007. Their technical partnership with Ilmor gives us confidence, and we look forward to the 2016 season."

That's interesting, but a little odd.

I don't really understand TAG's thinking in wanting to sponsor a (pretty shit) engine.

Sponsoring an engine makes sense. Their name will be used as part of the team name. Name recognition every time the team is referred to or displayed.

Unless Renault find a miracle cure, another whole year of Red Bull moaning about it, great.

Just hoping for semi-regular Q3 this year. Beat more teams than Manor and Haas. Yay.

Renault (Lotus) V Red Bull will spice things up on the grid. Looking forward to see how Jolyon Palmer gets on.

Other than that I'm interested to see
- If Verstappen can continue to light up the grid the way he has this season
- If McLaren/Honda can sort out their woes and give Alonso and Button something decent to drive
- Whether Renault can outdo Red Bull
- Whether Haas can do more than just make up the numbers

Can't wait for testing earmarked for March 1-4 !

After the comments from both Alonso and Ron I wouldn't be shocked to see Alonso somewhere else or even taking a year out.

Well you never know, but given what happened last time Alonso was there, I'd imagine they'd both want to avoid a repeat. They do have an excellent reserve driver in Vandoorne who dominated GP2 this last season, for what it's worth.

Don't underestimate how much of a cock Ron is!
