EXIT Festival 2010.

Seeing as there is one about Glastonbury.

I'm going to Exit for the first time this year, anyone on here going/heard of it?

I went in summer 2007.

It was awesome. I'm sure you know all about it, but it's set in the Petrovaradin Fortress in Novi Sad.

Prodigy were there the year I went which was a particular highlight. 100,000 people bouncing to Prodigy in a big fortress was something else. Loads of great acts that year - Groove Armada, Beastie Boys, Snoop Dogg, Wu-tang, Audiobullies, Pendulum, Green Velvet. The last few years haven't got close to matching it, otherwise I would have returned.

After the main acts in the fortress everyone heads down to the dance valley which is an incredible setting, and goes on all night until about 6am. Needless to say I was pretty wired alot of the time. I camped, which was great fun and great way to meet people, but it's hot, even in the shade. We ended up getting an air con apartment for the last night because we hadn't slept properly for days.

Some of my friends are going back this year. I would've gone too but I'm going to South East Asia instead. It's one of the great European festivals though, and far better than anything I've been to in Britain. You'll love it. Though my mate did have a run-in with some scary Serb gangsters, who tried to put the shits up him, but keep your nose clean and you'll be OK.

That is the year I was supposed to go but I started my job so couldn't. Like you said every other year hasn't been as good so I declined to go. This year I am going to a wedding in Serbia the week after EXIT, so it made sense to go to EXIT first, chill for a week and then the wedding.

My cousin has a place about 20 minutes (taxi) from there, so we should be able to party all night and then taxi it back to accommodation for sleep. Though I am looikng forward to hitting on as much I can in the various tents.

 I go every year to Serbia so I know the type of people to avoid, thanks though. Glad you had a good time, how did you find Serbia? Did you check out any Serbian acts whilst you were there, the atmosphere for traditional Serbian music is crazy, better than any Western music IMO.

My experience of Serbia is basically just EXIT. We flew Manchester to Budapest, then got an overnight train to Novi Sad straight from there. It was like the party train because everyone was going to EXIT. Armed guards got on when we crossed the border into Serbia, and started checking people's passports etc. Pretty intimidating actually, I'm not sure they took too kindly to a train-full of pissed up Europeans gatecrashing their country.

We arrived in Novi Sad about 9am on a weekday, so the local people were going to work, and going about their lives. They'd had seen it all before but we got some funny looks. I'm not sure the local people see much benefit from the festival, as they didn't seem too happy to see us. All the Serbs I met at the festival were great though, particularly some nice girls who I used to meet at the campsite beach every day. It helps that alot of them speak English. Booze was cheap as chips from the shops, and I was surprised by the extent of things you could buy over the counter from the pharmacy. Let's just say, comedowns were alot more bearable.

We definitely did check out some of the local stages, and I remember having a good time at some of them, but tbh, I'll be fecked if I can remember what was the Serbian stuff and what was the other random European stuff. Most stages had something going for them and attracted decent crowds.

After EXIT, we got a train to Belgrade, and then straight onto Croatia, where I spent the next week chilling out/recovering in Split, Debrovnik and the islands. I wouldn't mind going back to Serbia though and having a proper look around Belgrade, but not in the height of summer when you just want to be on the beach or coast. Too hot to explore inland cities.

Yeh the cops are none too kind, you have to watch out for them. If you give them any shit you will be beaten in some cases - it's not like here where you can spit at a cop and they will do nothing about it.

Drink and food is insanely cheap over there, even when they raise it up a bit because of the influx of tourists. Having said that though last year in Belgrade we noticed an increase in the drinks prices on the boat bars/clubs. They were pretty much like London prices ffs. Though these are places where all the fecking models and rich kids go to so its to be expected.

I can't recommend Belgrade highly enough, especially in the summer. There is always something to do, either along the raft bars or some underground bars or even the famous apartment that is actually a bar. This is just for nighlife, if you have a chance to go out there during football season you have to go and experience a Red Star game or Partizan at Basketball.

With regards to EXIT this year, I am most looking forward to seeing Dj Shadow and Prodigy. I'm sure theres a lot of other good acts there that I will check out but the lineup is a bit washy IMO.
