Himannv Tactics

Tactics
: 4-2-2-2 counterattacking

Reasoning Behind the System

There are multiple ideas behind this, one of which is to exploit deficiencies in the opposition’s space between defense and attack while maintaining a balance between defense and attack with ideally having at least six people at any phase of play. This gives the two AMs the option of being involved in the counters on either side of the opposition DM, while offering flexibility to attack wider if the option presents itself.

This system is achieved by utilizing two defensive midfielders to protect the back-four, practically giving the front four the freedom to attack with the support of the full-backs. The two midfielders further up the pitch play wider but also cut inside to support the two attackers, which allows for the wing-backs on either side to overlap, adding another dimension to the attack.

The idea is to overload the attacking line with no less than six players. The wings are relatively vulnerable here but opponent plays there are seen as collateral and capable of doing limited damage as they need to move centrally to score.

Another feature of the system (or more specifically the players in the team) is to have hard-working players off the ball and players who are good on the ball when they have it to facilitate the counterattacks.

Sjorgiola Tactics

Tactics: balanced setup merged with counter-attacking style(something like United of late 00s)

Team built to win, doesnt matter how and why but they gonna win.
How Sir Alex Ferguson would say: "Attack wins you games, defence wins you titles"
On that note, we built by far the best defence in the draft; Yashin - Moore - Voronin with a great supporting cast of Bratseth, Demyanenko and Amoros.
Tactics are fairly simple, keep it tight at the back, stay in the game and one goal could or should be enough as this team aint conceding more.
New additions to the team are the The Major of Rome on the right, hardworking genius with experience of kicking brazilian butt. Briegel that was funnily enough picked last RR only in case we face himann team and here we are one round later. Last but not least, making his draft debut is the Finals King - Didier Drogba. Other then Gerd Muller, there is no other striker we would want for this game.

Special Task: Hans-Peter Briegel
The way h-man team is built, we pretty much know how they gonna set up unless they gonna do something bizarre and weaken their team which would be even better as we love their team!
With that in mind, our plan is to mess with their midfield and how we plan to do so is we gonna isolate one of the best players on the pitch and make him do things he doesnt really like to do. How?
By man marking Wim Van Hanegem. Initially we picked Briegel in case we face Wim as we think its a great match up. Man marking job wasnt in the plans but after watching some games of the german for Verona we saw Briegel doing outstanding man marking job on Maradona so naturally why not? Has great physical and athletic attributes, good defender and what we saw was fantastic tactical discipline which all-round makes him a great man marker.

To get back to the original point, plan is to isolate Ngolo Kante in the build up process, put ball in his feet. We absolutely adore the guy, rate him to heavens and back; his possession game is very underrated but while quite nippy and smart on the ball you dont want to ask too much from him, let him do what he does best.
There are two scenarios, either Kante tries to do it on his own which would be brilliant for us or one of Rivelino and De Bruyne has to drop deeper. By doing so either of the two would not be close to their best + we remove a big threat from the final third.

good luck @Himannv , dont really have anything bad to say about the leam as i love it from R1. Maybe odd choice of tactic considering the personnel but nothing really major.

Considering the tactics of both teams, it would definitely be a low scoring game which fits perfectly for us. In a tight game we feel we have the edge as little things will make all the difference:
  • Having best keeper of all time could be massive
  • Drogba level in Finals
  • Pulling something out of nothing, we feel Mbappe is best on the pitch for that specific segment
  • Set Piece Threat - Drogba, Briegel, Bratseth

The man, the myth, the legend.
A bit of a forgotten man this days but anyone that watched him knows what a powerhouse this guy was. Sadly for him football went full USA and everyone is just focused on stats and there for multiple reasons he falls short compared to some other greats.
Not only did he stopped a civil war, he also has probably the second best record when it comes to finals - only behind the legendary Gerd Muller. His record in the finals is absolutely out of this world. When the team needs him, you can bet your house he will step up to the occasion.
  1. 03/04 Marseille 0:2 Valencia
  2. 04/05 Liverpool 2:3 Chelsea - scored
  3. 06/07 Arsenal 1:2 Chelsea - scored 2
  4. 06/07 Man Utd 0:1 Chelsea - scored
  5. 07/08 Tottenham 2:1 Chelsea - scored
  6. 07/08 Man Utd 1(6):1(5) Chelsea
  7. 08/09 Everton 1:2 Chelsea - scored
  8. 09/10 Portsmouth 0:1 Chelsea - scored
  9. 11/12 Liverpool 1:2 Chelsea - scored
  10. 11/12 Bayern Munchen 1(3):1(4) - scored
  11. 13/14 Fenerbahce 0:1 Galatasaray - scored
  12. 17/18 Louisville 1:0 Phoenix
Left one final out where he played only a minute, so thats 12 finals - 8 wins - 10 goals!!!
Also important to note in the last final he was 40 years old, playing as a owner/player! First time in football history.

Love the use of Briegel, such a versatile player.
Very Gio-esque team, it’s interesting how only a few changes can transform it as drastically.

I’ll have to watch the video first & think on Briegel/van Hanegem thing a bit more (I’m not entirely sure if De Bruyne/Rivellino won’t be able to compensate van Hanegem’s potential absence without too much trouble).

Dont think we said they wont be able to compensate, its just a ploy to get one of them a bit deeper which gives you less threat in the final third and one of them not in the best position to showcase their talent to the full.

I mean how much of their attacking game would they have to sacrifice to compensate for van Hanegem's potential lack of influence in the build up.

Interesting team from Himannv. Like but but unsure on suitability of Bossis for that role. My recollection of him was a conservative fullback and not a full flank width provider.

As to other team, I don't get the tactics to mark WvH out of a team that's packed with midfielders, when a simple pass can get the ball upfield.

One of WvH or Biregel is likely to get sent off.

If you buy that Briegel will to the job, it means more often then not one would have to drop deeper to get some rhythm going and at this level it all counts. Its almost like player would have the same numbers by playing in midfield and as an attacking mid, its a massive difference. Obviously here the difference isnt that drastic but im 101% sure it would have an impact. He cant physically be at 2 places so the whole dynamics change when one drops deep.
On the other side of the coin, if you dont buy it then yeah, nobody really has to sacrifice anything apart from us using a lesser midfielder then we could have.

on a serious note, mind boggling view considering football is tactically at his absolute best(naturally) and a "DLP" is pretty much a must at any serious level....im lost to why considering a simple pass forward can do the business?

I don’t know if man marking WVH would really work in a counterattacking setup with a back line where everyone is good on the ball and Rivellino plus KDB on the pitch as well. A one touch pass would be all that is required to just get it away and get the counter launched from a different player.

He did play at LB a few times in France’s magic square although they needed him more at CB during the latter part of his career. He played more at fullback (even at RB) during the early part of his career. I don’t feel he’s really a conservative fullback - he’s obviously a good defender but he can definitely attack as well.

Problem is, we are not really interested in playing football either and looking at set of players both team have think its fair to say you will have more of the ball. Chances for counters of both teams will he very limited with both teams playing it on a more defensive side, considering the teams we think that suits us more.
Saying that, importance of proper ball player at the base of your midfield raises significantly + say bye to your love ones as Wim would probably strangle you considering how little you value his presence!

I thought the upgrades were brilliant for a 4-4-2. Rivellino and Leandro immediately upgrade the flanks. Would have loved the Rivellino and Van Hanegem partnership as well.

The current setup doesn't get the best out of a lot of players. Tostao and Van Hanegem for starters could have had a much larger say in the build up in a 442. Kante's forays forward would be curtailed too.

Not a great decision IMO.

I think Moore and Voronin will make Sjorgiola's counters more effective than Himannv's. Going for Sjor.

I feel if there is more space to operate on the ball wider, they will move there and if their presence is required on the flanks off the ball they will operate there. The arrows were in place to indicate that. The reason I had them more centrally was to facilitate counters on either side of the opposition DM and give them the freedom to operate where the spaces are.

Tostao will drop deeper and allow for overlaps etc. when required.

Himmanv team needs a bit more of a flank dominatior or a person who can run up and down in both defense and offense but Bossis is fine choice for me, although I rate him a lot higher in cb position.

Drogba's peerless big-game credentials have already been showcased by Sjor, but it's probably worth highlighting what both Conti and Mbappe can bring to a final. Both Conti and Mbappe hit top gear in a World Cup final no less. Conti was arguably man of the match in the 1982 World Cup Final, starting well:

The Complete History of the World Cup said:
Attempting to regain the momentum lost by the penalty miss (that Conti won), the Italians pressed with Conti in particular a regular menace to the West German defence. First the Roma star struck a volley over the bar from outside the area, then with a free-kick into Schumacher's midriff...

Then going on to set up all 3 goals. What stood out was how well he exposed the West Germans on the break and comes across as an absolute specialist in unlocking a narrow formation.

On the other side, Mbappe has shone and scored in a World Cup Final. Collectively that looks like an attack that decides big games.

good game @Himannv , love the team though i have to say i preferred the one with Zagallo in it.

Good game Sjor and Gio - well-deserved win I think. I did prefer the gung-ho high line high press you guys went with and a lot of the tactics I used here were with a mindset to combat that.

Never expected to get this far with a team I probably only rate myself. Maybe the 4-4-2 might have got more love, idk, but I still live and die by the tactical change because there's no fun in playing the same setup every time.

Unlucky @Himannv. Didn't think we stood much chance against your 442 with Nilton/Rivelino and Leandro/De Bruyne flanks, either side of that perfectly complementary Van Hanegem/Kante partnership.
