United: Myles - Amass, Kingdon, Munro, Devaney. McAllister - Missin, J.Fletcher, McAllister, Baumann, Scanlon - Biancheri

Sub: Harrison, Ogunneye, E.Williams, Sharpe, Jackson


Everton been really poor all season - and in a division where teams usually score a lot, Everton have managed just 10 goals in 9 games.
 
Scanlon with a goal after 3 minutes - Pickford maybe should have saved it but a great start for us. Left-footed shot from a slightly tight angle. 10 yards out
 
Another good chance for United after good play from Amass - but the pass from Biancheri is put above goal from Scanlon. Just 30 seconds later Scanlon again puts the ball wide from 5 yards out
 
Penalty - handball - an Everton-defender blocks a shot from Missin
 
0-2 Biancheri (16) penalty - sends Pickford the wrong way

Complete United-domination the first 20 minutes - Everton are lucky only to be 2 goals down
 
Still 2-0 with 35 minutes played. United look very much in control despite not being at their best - Everton have been very poor and they have offered nothing going forward
 
Scanlon hammers yet another shot over the bar - he even had a good freekick saved by Pickford earlier. Could easily have had 3-4 goals rather than the 1 he scored
 
Is this the sort of football that the first-team manager aspires to? Pressing from the front, getting the ball back quickly, and possession dominance?

Probably. But Lawrence has the players who seem to WANT to play this way
 
Everton slightly more involved in the 2nd half - Ogunneye on for Amass at half-time.
 
Huge chance for Sharpe who is on a sub - played through from keeper Myles, but Everton manage to block his effort
 
Second half has been boring - United should have scored at least one more goal but generally quite dull now
 
well this Everton-side was so poor- that was never a problem
 
Is this Pickford in Everton's goal a relation of Jordan?

Apparently about 7000 called Pickford in the UK :) And the name apparently from ancient times means "Pig crossing" - with our wingers you might as well call it that.

Wolves beat Liverpool 4-1 so the gap at the top extends to 9 pts + a game in hand. City are 11 pts behind us but they have a game in hand.
 
And the U21 took the lead in the 1st minute through Nolan - and Newcastle equalized in the 3rd minute - a 5-5 result coming up ?
 
Ended 3-2 for the U21 - Nolan, Hugill penalty and Shoretire with the goals

Good to see he's getting himself into the right positions but might need a few shooting drills to sort his accuracy

United's U/18's have gone undefeated for the first 10 games of the season six times in our history.

1963/64 - 8-2-0....lost 11th match
1983/84 - 7-3-0....lost 15th match
1985/86 - 9-1-0....lost 19th match
1992/93 - 10-0-0...lost 11th match
1998/99 - 8-2-0...lost 22nd match (last game of season)
2003/04 - 8-2-0....lost 14th match

So the answer is we have equalled the record set in 1992/93 and will set a new club record if we beat Newcastle United away on the 13th January.

This is something I’ve mentioned earlier in the season and think it’s a trend the manager wants to reinstate into the club’s culture.

85/86 - wasn't that a fairly anonymous United youth-side ? That must have been around the time Walsh and Martin were in the youth-sides, but I can't recall many more that made it from that age-group ? Tony Gill and Bill Garton, were they involved.
But that must have been the year City had a cracking youth-side. All of them broke through 2-3 seasons later - Moulden, Lake, White, Redmond, Hinchcliffe etc - I think almost the entire City-team went on to play regularly at top-level in the late 80s' and early 90s

Sorry - checked and Garton was 3-4 years older

For whatever reason the team was a good one although many didn't make it at United. Our record that season was P36 W27 D8 L1 F96 A20 Pts 89

We also reached the FA Youth Cup Final losing on aggregate to City. So a very decent season.

Player who had good careers were Fraser Digby, Gary Walsh, Tony Gill, Alan McLoughlin, Russell Beardsmore, Steve Gardner, Derek Brazil and a few older aged players like Nicky Wood, Paul McGuinness and Simon Ratcliffe.

A solid group with no one really excelling.
