Shamelessly stolen as an idea from the football forum as I'm fecking terrible at football and never played against anyone even vaguely decent...

Cricket - Played with/against a few of the Surry first team, most notably Graham Thorpe, a couple of times when I played for Farnham.
Rugby - I came on as a sub against Harlequins in the Pilkington Cup in 1993, including Will Carling (we got stuffed 52-3 )

Cricket- Have played against Gambhir and Virat Kohli.

Nehra, Gambhir, Sehwag, Aakash Chopra...used to practice on our college grounds.

Sehwag used to pummel the best fast bowlers back then using a stump.

That's impressive. What level KM?

Not an impressive level, it was rather me being at a right place at the right time.

Gambhir used to live at Ramjas Road and his Grandparents house was very near to my school in Rajender Nagar, so I've played with him with a tennis ball in Ramjas Road ground.

Kohli is my childhood friend's cousin. I played with him and were on the same team during some locality match. It was ten years ago though, he was still the best batsman on the display by a mile and his fielding was amazing.

It deserved a youtube video to be fair, but this was 2002-03 when not too many people whipped our their phones even for something as astonishing as this.

I still maintain he's one of the most naturally talented cricketers to play for India.

No arguments about that. As talented as SRT for me, the difference is ofcourse that whilst SRT is a workaholic, Sehwag always comes across as a lazy guy.
Still have trouble believing that stump story but if anyone can pull that off then it's Sehwag.

Have you never heard about Don Bradman training using a golfball, thrown against a brickwall, and a stump as a bat to practice?

I'm quite often outraged when people recently mock Sehwag's fitness and all that and put him down.

Sehwag at his peak was legendary. When India got to number 1, he was brilliant. Think his latter career antics have made people under-rate him.

High school basketball - Donnie Sadler, MLB journeyman - both our senior year (1993-94); we played against his school (Valley Mills, TX) and beat them in a feisty game that saw a couple ejections late and a near brawl in the parking lot following the game (near brawl was with their fans/students not the opposition; I told an adult male to feck off late in the 4th quarter after he came from stands to verbally abuse our bench; he along with others waited for us outside the gymnasium but school staff, fans/students, and police intervened).

High school basketball - Leonard Davis, played for Arizona Cardinals and Dallas Cowboys - my senior year, 1993-94; he was a beast at age 15 when we played against his school (Wortham, TX), he was already 6'5", 300lbs. We destroyed them by 20-something.

Grew up playing at the same club as Doug Bollinger. Faced him in the nets at 13/14/15 a tonne of times. Could hardly see it.

Have played against a few other aussies that played international cricket. In particular against Warner who slapped 160* in quick time. Was not fun at all.

Darts- Andy Fordham twice, including once when he was world champion and kind of practised with Phil Taylor for a couple of legs.

I played football with Sean Lowe, brother of football writer Sid Lowe. I played cricket many times Satheesh Kumar/Sathish Kumar, used to play for Tamil Nadu Ranji Team and then was appointed as the captain of Orissa or something. He was talented of course, but I didn't see much. We've pretty much played street cricket and we were always trying to score runs, playing on the legside. He only played shots on the offside and he got selected. The bastard.

I went for Districts selection with him. There was about 200 kids there and the coach shouted, All bowlers to the left, All batsmen to the right, wicket keepers behind. Few of them moved accordingly, but there was still about 150 guys in the middle. Enraged, the coach shouted, what the hell are you lot playing for and they shouted, we are all rounders. None of them got selected

Played GAA a few times against Ciaran Kilkenny, who plays for Dublin. That's about it

Not exactly a footballer but played with Billy Corgan in Chicago. I loved it because our group of pickup weekend warriors was almost entirely International with the exception of myself and a couple of others and I was the only one who knew who he was

Not exactly famous, but

Chess -

Aditya Udeshi

I also THINK i might have played one of the Indian Women GMs when I was younger, but don't remember who.

Who won?

Or let me re-phrase that, how long did you last? :D

I played a 1900-rated player once, got a winning position, then blew it. :( (knight fork under time pressure)

He's not somebody "famous" though.

Played with pretty much all the current young Trini cricketers (Pollard, both Bravos, Ramdin, Simmonds, Cooper, Gabriel) and quite a few of the young Middlesex ones (London, Stirling, Patel, Wilkin) as well as an older one in Ed Smith. Also played against Raza Hasan the Pakistani left arm spinner.

They all smashed me around/got me out regularly though!

He was still a kid at the time, and I was in my teens. I lasted a fair long time. I have beaten 2 players rated 2000+ in high pressure tournaments once... Ended up with a big trophy for my school that week!

My friend caught out Tendulkar in a game, I was on the boundary when it happened so I like to think myself as a contributing factor to him doing so...

No but I once shook hands with Bear Grylls and he winked (playfully?) at me.

Played football against Usain Bolt and Jermaine Gonzales multiple times. They train at the university I went to. Also played cricket in high school with first class cricketer Simon Jackson.

Played football with Chris Lightfoot (Chester, Wigan, Crew) I also brushed against Jo Guest in the The Hacienda many moons ago.
