From Sporting Life:
Any hopes that Manchester United, or any other club, has of signing highly-rated Rennes defender Julien Escude will have to wait until the end of the season.

Rennes president Pierre Dreossi his re-iterated his club's stance over the France Under-21 international, who was the subject of intense interest from United during the summer.

United boss Sir Alex Ferguson admitted today that he may make another swoop for Escude but Dreossi says any move will have to be made once the current campaign has ended.

Dreossi said: "We have not had any contact with Manchester United since August. Julien is in Rennes and will remain in Rennes until the end of the season as we have always said."

You'll have probably seen that Alex said we're probably going to go back in for Escude and Burdisso, well we might have to wait for Escude.

Dreossi would say that though wouldnt he? Presidents and Chairmen always do!

They didn't let go of him at the end of last season, and showed concern about their ability to replace him. They know they'll always be able to sell him and his value will only go upwards - they're in a strong position.

They're also heading for relegation. Not sure that will increase his price.

Are they? Long season though.

I read somewhere that Escude was out of contract in the summer, in that case shouldnt they sell him in the transfer window rather than let him walk for free in July?

If United really want him desperately they will land him, they have shown that they will pay the price to get people in the past.

Escude is not out of contract at the end of the season.

It is true it's too early to say Rennes are down - they are not - but they were relegation candidates and haven't done a thing to change anyone's mind, with 5 points from ten matches.

I think united would benefit waiting till the summer. He wouldnt comand a first team place this season at united and hes still very young. He'll benefit from first team football in France. If Rennes are in the lower half of the league at the end of the season, we may get him at a better price

teams have said they're not selling their best defender to us in the past (Rio and Leeds) and whos he playing for now? If we want him enough we'll get him

agreed.

I would leave Escude trail(for now)and Head long on Sorin
( unless he had already played in a european cup)

1 Sorin is more experienced (hes a regular argentine int)

2 he is a wonderful full back armed with a magnificent header and can score tons of goals

3 He can easily cover Giggsie

Ideally i would bring Sorin now and escude at the end of the season. This would

1 give us a wonderful cover to Giggsie and silvestre

2 and release silvestre from his left sided role

My conclusion

Sorin ( left back + cover to giggs)( free for stam deal)
Escude (5m)

in

P Neville (6m)
Q Fortune (2m)
Blanc (retired)
May (1m)

out

P Neville has been brilliant this season (as has Blanc, but you wouldn't know that, either). Fortune has just signed a new contract.

And Fergie will never push Phile Neville out of United.
