I've never felt as confident going into June as I am this year of having at least one and hopefully two winners.

Fame and Glory 7/2
Gan Amhras 10/1

Both knocking bets for the Derby. I think the former will win and his price is holding up because the stables top jockey may ride Rip Van Winkle. Guineas winner Sea the Stars is not guaranteed to be as effective over a mile and a half and Gan Amhras ran an excellent trial at Newmarket and should give Fame and Glory most to do. If Johnny Murtagh does go against my selection his price will hold up and i'll be going in again.

Rainbow View 5/1

Easily the classiest filly she also has the best form on offer for the Oaks. She may not run if the ground is on the fast side but some bookies are going non-runner no bet. Excellent price.

Totally agree,cracking price

If Sea The Stars stays he'll win, I make him even money to stay and he's 3/1 or better to win.

It's not just a case of him staying, he needs to improve as well because this looks a good Derby.

I think he was pretty impressive over a mile, if he's still got petrol in the tank after another 4 furlongs he'll cut 'em down. Todays' Oak looks like one of the top three, I'm put off Sariska by a seriously slow time at York, Rainbow View hasn't gone further than a mile which leaves me with Midday, who's guaranteed to stay and the best priced of the trio at 5s.

I think RV has as much chance of staying as StS but the difference is she probably doesn't need to show improved form over the trip to win. For me a 2yo filly winning like she did over the stiff Ascot mile last September is a strong indication she will stay. The race reminds me of Balanchine's Oaks in that we have a filly with classic form taking on unproven trial winners.

The one thing that gives me pause over Fame and Glory is the thought that this year's 2000G was an outstanding renewal. I'm hoping he is supported tomorrow as I could do with laying some off (have close to £300 on him). I have some 10s on Gan Amhras as I think that if it was that good a renewal him being so close with such a middle distance pedigree is a big tip in itself.

I always tend to treat 2YO fillies' form with caution since they often don't really reproduce it as 3YOs (as RV didn't in the guineas). Midday's practically gone 12f and shapes like a fast-improving 3YO filly.

Bizarre, team O'Brien turned it into a 10f race and duly got slaughtered.

Indeed. Compensation awaits in October though. I've taken 12s on Fame and Glory for the Arc where softer ground and a faster pace will play to his strengths more.

They'll all be back for the Irish Derby. I think the staying issue has not been put to bed so I won't be backing Stars at about even money.
