Enzo 'Terry' Fernandez | Vice-Captain of Chelsea

We're not top 3 anymore!

Oh boy this really looks awful when presented like this. 5 of our own transfers and if you were to be honest - all, but the one we did this year (so too early to tell) seem to be terrible pieces of business. Only VVD seems to have been worth the money.

Now now, let’s play fair…

If United’s signing are forever quoted in euros so they can be slagged off on the Cafe then the same should apply for other teams.

Enzo cost 121 million euros!

Worrying that most of those transfer are bad

Antony could still come good but VvD is the only real success and he's gone off the boil now.

Someone did a thorough run through of all of the most expensive transfers and the vast majority of them were flops

Fair point.

I think after spending this amount, they'll give him at least a year to settle in, surely! :nervous:
Probably send him on loan to the Championship for a season to get him up to speed.

I hope he gets more scrutiny than Pogba
He plays for a London club, will barely be a peep.

If he manages a couple long balls they'll be replaying it on MOTD over and over

5 players in the top 10 though? ;)

But seriously, that's what, 1 outright success, jury's out on 5 and then 4 that failed to live up to expectations or outright flopped hard?

He surely is the most expensive player ever with cumulative transfer fees, at this point? I know way back then it was di Maria, iirc.
Morata could challenge but yeah lukaku is right at the top

Only reason Pogba got that negative scrutiny was because he was/is a massive celebrity off the pitch. All the old boomers in the media hate when a footballer has personality.

So Enzo won’t get that sort of shit from the media.

Shevchenko -> Robinho -> Torres (Chelsea) -> Pogba -> Grealish -> Fernandez

What do the predecessors of Fernandez for the English transfer record all in common other than the fact that they were all ego purchases done to prove a point?

Lukaku being in there twice says a lot about how stupid these fees are
Shows how even the professionals are partial to just lazily looking at the top line.

It's one thing fans doing it but managers and/or people running clubs being that stupid is unbelievable.

Morata is a fair bit away and not got much scope for big fees at his age. If Lukaku's record is to be broken I think it'll probably be by Mbappe. Haaland is a frequent mover but if the reported release clause thing is true, that puts his overall potential fee down a bit.

To be fair I think that says more about our club over the last 10 years than the players themselves.

What player hasn't flopped? only really Martial has lasted since the LVG era and he's wishy washy.

Fernandes is the only 'hit' we've had in most of our transfers. Some decent squad players like Fred,Herrera but the majority have all come and gone quickly.

It doesn't help that our playing style has gone from direct to possession to counter then back to direct again over several managers.

Then you need to switch it to pounds for no reason and slightly inflate the fee whilst complaining about it.

Can't believe they signed someone from the Portuguese league for £130m.
