now, i know i'm jumping the gun by about a week here but i needed to get in quick for the good of a nation!

you see, i started the ENG v NZ thread and we won 3-0...nealn started the Natwest Series thread and we came last!

need i say more?

;)

Australian-esque scoring at the beginning of the First Test, assisted by a couple of dodgy umpiring decisions when the WIndies batted.

Magnificent spell of 'tail bowling' by Freddie, followed by a quick-fire 58 that emptied the bars this afternoon. And great to see Vaughan playing his way back to form.

I fancy Harmison and Giles to finish the job tomorrow, weather and Lara permitting.

Apatr from the victory, two really great moments today...Giles sublime delivery that got Lara and Freddy sledging Tino Best into a mad dash down the wicket

"Mind the windows Tino"

A lot of banter during Best's brief stay and stump mike was turned up full so we could all enjoy it. God bless modern technology.

:)

 i have always loathed Tino Best so i've plans to print...

"Mind the windows, Tino!"
Andrew Flintoff 26/07/04

on a t-shirt!

there are rumblings on the grapevine that Jimmy n his swing will get a turn tomorrow but with no slope to piss off Steve and the old-ball quality of Jones, i'm not holding my breath :(

Jimmy's in ! Should get a bowl tomorrow afternoon as I don't fancy England to go much beyond lunch time.

Day off tomorrow so I'll be in front of the box 10.30 am sharp for Fred's knock.

C'mon Engerlunnnd.

Unbelievable picking his old man out like that for a 6. It probably was luck but perhaps even more unbelievable.

:D and a very happy 22nd to the lad :D hope he gets more than 4 overs tomorrow! his line wasn't the best but he should be persisted with considering the others were being made to look fairly ordinary by Sarwan and Lara (and Chanderpaul hasn't even started yet :nervous: )

i'm gonna go out on a limb and call this one a draw...Lara likes this place :nervous:

You could be right but I've played cricket to a reasonable standard and where his old man was and to get it virtually inch perfect truely was remarkable.

And I'll be telling Giggsy that your two timing him. :)

ah well as long as you don't tell giggZy...virtual girls are the only ones he can get these days and this might send him over the edge!

uh hang on...giggzy's a cricket fan, right? reckon he'll read this thread? better add one of these --> ;)

note to self: Freddy is my god! i must NOT have indecent thoughts about him! think Jimmy! Jimmy! Jimmy! Jimmy! Jimmy! Jimmy! Jimmy! Jimmy! Jimmy!

ok, definitely going doolally now...bed time! :boring:

England 378 ahead with 7 wickets in hand. Tresco / Thorpe going well, Freddie, Jones the Gloves and Giles still to bat. We'll be looking to get close to 500 by lunch tomorrow, then let the bowlers loose.

Flintoff is developing that magic touch which Botham had. He takes critical wickets and makes runs at important times, whats more he does it with style and class.

how Jimmy never got MOM for THAT catch and those 2 crucial tail-enders, i'll never know!!!

anyhoo...good team performance due to different people stepping up at different times but they may need to be ALL on song at the same time if they're gonna beat a better side!

p.s. was i the only one who failed to see the legality of Lawson's action in the first innings? it improved but there were some definite throws in the mix!

Its difficult to tell it did look extremely dodgy, but I think Muli's looks a chucker but he has been scientifically proven not to.

not strictly. Muli's action has baffled the world's top cricketing brains so i'm certainly not gonna try...however, it seems to me that it has been proved (he straightens up above shoulder height, 10.2 degrees rather than 5 etc.) but the ICC has this "tolerance" thingy going on just 'cos he's an "asset to the game", he's "entertaining" and his action is "a thing of beauty" etc.

i don't buy that. why the special treatment? why one rule for him, another for everyone else?

Muli says that he should be allowed 10 degrees 'cos his arm speed is the same as that of a fast bowler but Simon Hughes made the really good point that Ashley Giles' arm moves quicker than Pedro Collins' so why isn't he allowed some leeway?

on the other hand, no one will ever have the guts to chuck him out of the game (pardon the pun) so it's all rather moot really!

To be honest what surprised me is that Muli was ever tested. Puzzled I will explain, had I have had his action at School or club cricket I wouldn't have been allowed to bowl a second ball. Having said that I think he has been tested thoroughly and his action has gone through lots of testing, it hasn't been ignored. And did you see channel 4 put him in that arm brace to test his action? having said that his action when not using the brace may be slighly different.

A question isn't the problem that his arm isn't normal thats where the problem arises?

"A thing of beauty" I know you are joking.
