Elon Musk

When I had my first diploma exam with an ancient professor, being a nervous student and all, I walked into his office to see the very symbol behind his desk. Clearly in an Indian context, but still. Brutal to see that at a German uni
I hope he told you off for ageism.

As I said in t’other thread I honestly think it’s just him being a complete fecking dork. As per. He did the patting his heart thing and couldn’t work out he should do next so went for something he imagines someone cool might do in a film. He’s such a pathetic nerd. He can’t manage simple human gestures.

Not that it matters, mind you. He’s made his politics abundantly clear before any of this happened.
Could maybe put it down to being the most awkward freak in existence if it wasn’t for the whole thing about his grandparents being in the nazi party, him acting quite like a nazi aside from the two nazi salutes, and his public sympathy for actual neo-nazis.

yeah but other than that.

It’s beyond edge lording. He’s the grandson of Canadian Nazi’s that emigrated to Apartheid South Africa because that was the place for them to be. He retweets Nazi propaganda on his own platform and has relaxed the rules on far right and Nazi content to the point where people can message Jews that they are going to put them in a gas chamber and the result of reporting it is “This message does not break community guidelines”. Meanwhile using the word “Cis” result in the tweet being deleted.

I don’t get why people are so keen to dismiss his worst behaviour as him being a bit of a nerd. He holds and shares very extremist views and he’s now got the ear of POTUS.We are in a dangerous timeline and trivialising his behaviour because it fits into your “everything he does is because he’s a painfully uncool nerd” narrative does nobody any favours.

I don’t why you interpret my take on him as only being a nerd. It’s just the overwhelming impression I get from his body language every time I see him on video. It’s like a fecking foghorn blast of dweeb. Makes it very hard to notice anything else.

What he says and does when he isn’t being filmed (especially what he types) is a separate issue. It’s tinged by dork but nowhere near enough to disguise his politics. Which are far enough to the right at this stage most of his tweets are basically nazi salutes anyway. And have been for a while.

I find it hard to believe that anyone could be dense enough to not see that as a Nazi salute. Yet the media run with 'Roman', 'Unusual', or if they're feeling particularly racy - 'Possible Nazi' salute. Turns my fecking stomach.

This guy has made it clear what he believes to anyone even half paying attention. Now he gets up on stage high as a fecking kite and clearly thinks 'feck it'.

Sickening times we're living in. I worry more what world my kids will grow up in, as nobody in positions of power appears willing to stand up to this far right lurch.

The Telegraph knew exactly what they were doing with that “Roman Salute” tweet.

Well fecking said!

The Roman salute is explicit fascist imagery. It's actually pretty wild that the Telegraph called it that, it's not a defense at all.

Nazi salutes = nerd

Saying Roman salute is really the same as saying Nazi salute. I mean, i am not defending fecking media here, i just can't believe their readers could be swayed by 'Roman' instead of 'Nazi'. I am probably overestimating capacity of general public to understand what is going on here though.

That may have some plausibility if he fumbled to it just once, but he did it twice.

Is not the same because it has not the same weight. And the telegraph knew exactly what they were doing when they didn't call it a nazi salute

It’s really not the same.

One has explicit negative connotations that everyone understands.

Yep, disgusting.

Of course, it is. If you have half a working brain you'll work out exactly what a Roman salute is very quickly, and what the media in question are doing by labelling it that.

I think you are overestimating the general public unfortunately. This all just makes me so sad.

Yeah! I mean, it would be a level below nazi, but aligning yourself with Italian fascism is still abhorrent.

It's also a ridiculous reference though. Who outside history nerds and Italian fascists know about the Roman salute? And neither describes Musk.

It's also incredible what we're witnessing here. Could anyone have imagined this a year ago, a person in that position of power doing a fascist/Nazi salute on such a hyper-public occasion? Fecking hell.

This guy is doing full on Nazi salutes with the eyes of the world on him. He feels truly invincible. Whatever he's taken before going on stage has removed his inhibitions and had him truly express himself.

Tesla stock should tank, but it won't. Obviously. How do you hold on to the vehicle of an outright Nazi after this?

I remember the days when political figures were destroyed for calling bigoted people bigoted “behind closed doors”.

Now you have nazi salutes on the biggest stage on the planet and you don’t hear a peep from the major outlets.
