Ella Toone | January POTM

Gutting to see Ella out for that long, but I think the break will do her good. She came back so quickly after her father passed that maybe this will give her an opportunity to grieve away from the pressures of LSV.

We all grieve differently. I’m sure she was given the option of a small break but obviously wanted to keep playing. In terms of her body language it’s always the same, especially when it’s not going her way.

So the body language or her performances might have nothing to do with her father.

Anyway let’s hope she recovers well and the mental break helps her.

Skinner's after-match interview says Ella's injury hasn't yet been fully assessed. So I'll put a maybe in the thread title.

Based on the many interviews I've read and watched with Tooney over the past few years, my sense is that she wouldn't know how else to cope except to keep playing. I can also easily imagine her thinking that "this is what my dad would want me to do." On the other hand, I believe that some (forced) time off might well be good for her -- although missing the Lionesses' match at Wembley against USWNT will surely be gut-wrenching for her.

Yes. I find it troubling how many on-line "reports" make it sound as if she's been diagnosed and that the 6-week timeline is etched in stone. All we really know officially is that she "felt something in her calf" while running (if I recall Skinner's statement correctly).

The latest from Skinner: “Ella [Toone] picked up an injury in training the day before the Leicester game. She had a calf injury in part of the session. It's definite that she'll miss these two games. She'll miss the international window where we'll keep assessing her time and then, we'll see whether she's back for the block of three games after that.”

In contention for tomorrow, got through the training session with the rest of the team.

Having a happy and healthy Ella Toone makes me a lot more optimistic about the rest of the season!

Hinata's flick in the buildup to Ella's first goal was a thing of beauty.

I know people will say we were gifted the other two goals by defensive errors, but we were forcing those errors and Toone's positioning was great.

Plus, she was absolutely ruthless today.

Some of her key stats:
Shots = 3
Shots on target = 3
Goals = 3
:lol:

At one point it was Touches in opposition box = 3 as well!

That's beautiful from her and will feel very familiar to a lot of people including me. Lovely to hear about her great dad.

Rio did an interview with Ella this week:

A great article above. She just seems like such a genuine, down-to-earth character, very endearing. I felt so sorry for her losing her dad in the way she did.

Well deserved! Although I voted for the other one of Tooney's in the list, the wallop off the underside of the bar against West Brom.

She's back! Agreed, fully deserved. I also agree that Tooney's goal against WBA was better, but, for me, Bizet's was the best January goal.
