feck me you really couldn't make this shit up, another gem I stumbled across.

Leeds United footballer El-Hadji Diouf has been embroiled in some unsavoury affairs throughout his career, but no fault can be attached to him for posing for a picture with an ardent fan who was blacked up and bearing his hero's haircut.

Like Incrediboy attempting to replicate the look of Mr Incredible - only more successful - the astonishing picture was probably taken outside of Elland Road ahead of Leeds' New Year's Day fixture with Bolton Wanderers.

We all hate Leeds scum.

Just imagine what that kid's gonna think when he grows up and sees that again.

The slightest thing these days and we are unsure whether to think racism or not. I wouldn't do that to my son, but Diouf and the kid seem happy enough with it so I don't see a problem really.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with blacking up for a costume/fancy dress.

PC idiots are absolutely fecking excruciating. They can't wait to cry racist. Twats.

I'm not sure I see anything wrong with "blacking up" for a costume if the person you're dressing as is black. If the character themselves is a racist stereotype, then it's bad (like a gollywog or something), but otherwise it's surely just the same as any other type of makeup. No one cares that the kid changed his hairstyle, why is this any different?

Obviously, that applies to all people of all skin colours altering their skin colours for the purposes of a costume, not just light-skinned people "blacking up".

Whatever, Diouf seems to think it was great, so why the heck not?

Diouf has a fan ? I'm sure he is as surprised as I am.

I see nothing wrong with that and fair play to Diouf for taking it the right way.

Dead on lads. There is no malice whatsoever in doing it, he's clearly trying to be like Diouf, and Diouf seems happy enough with it. There is no issue here.

Besides the idiot trying to look like Diouf of course.

People have asked the question. And due to the history of 'blacking up', there'll be people out there who think it's racist.

Is it absolutely fecking excruciating that there are people out there asking the question? I think you're getting a bit upset over something that isn't really happening here.

I wasnt saying I thought it was racist, I happen to think its a nice gesture and no different from me turning my collar up and drawing on a monobrow to look like Eric Cantona. But knowing my luck I'd have expressed that opinion and the whole caf would have been outraged at this kid or whatever. I wasn't sure whether this thread was intended as an angry thread or what

Yeah, but that aside, look at the gremlin! Can it not be destroyed?

Well I'm glad you preemptively taught us all a lesson.

Is anybody even making a big deal out of this? The article mentions nothing of racism.

Don't know about England, but black face is very derogatory and an ugly racist part of US history.

While I don't give two hoots about this, it does make me laugh those saying 'Diouf is fine with it' as if he is the authority on blacking up

That's not what I was trying to do. I'm not really in the mood to get into a debate on what counts as racist or not, so wanted to hold back what I thought until I've fully judged the mood of the thread so as not to antagonise people. If the thread had turned the other way and people had started calling this kid racist or whatever else, I'd have left and not come back. I only came back to explain my question in the first post.

It seems you've decided to feel antagonised anyway.

Ah I'm only messing Chuckles, no one is antagonised.

Yeah, I don't think there's anything wrong with it if the kid is dressing up as a specific person like this. It's only offensive if the costume is just a generic racial stereotype. Still wouldn't think it's an especially wise thing to do though.

There's obviously no malice intended. He's just a kid trying to be like his favourite player. But it wouldn't go over nearly as well if the lad was in his twenties. Not least because he's wearing a full kit.

The only issue with all this is that the kid really has Diouf as a role model/hero? Seriously? I suppose it's right up there with a ton of Chelsea fans worshipping Terry! ;)

Fair play for all the effort the lad went though to look like his hero though.

 The men in white coats would be on hand to take him back to the nearest secure unit.

Listen guys,

I hate Leeds as much as the next guy here, I also have a disdain for El-Hadji Diouf, I think he's an absolute cockhead of the highest order and a complete disgrace of a human being. Full kit wearers are also complete wankers.

But I can't see a problem with this, if anything this is the only good thing I've seen to come out of all three, it's a happy fan, nothing more.
