In spite of all the talk about the ronaldinhos, adrianos and zlatans of this world, I have a feeling that one of the above two will join us this summer as our new striker.

Not that I would be disappointed though :)

Gudjohnsen maybe, but why would Beattie want to leave Southampton where he's going great guns and he has good relationship with Strachan.

Champions League stage, Manchester United, Carrington facilities, Old Trafford - The Theatre of Dreams, SAF, Beckham to cross, etc, etc. Are those enough reasons for any player, unless you are a Liverpool player?

I think Beattie is happy where he is. In any case, he's a bit too much like Ruud. Not what we need.

Earlier on I posted something about Beattie being a Lancashire lad and a United fan. That was wrong. Beattie is indeed from Lancashire but he's a Blackburn fan. That removes one big motivation he might have had for signing with us.

Eidur is a safer bet. Beattie may turn into a one season wonder

Id prefer a one legged blind man, I think Beattie isnt a bad player but more of a flash in the pan and Gudjohnsen is a moderate sized fish in a small pond.

Beattie will be good..but I also doubt he'll join us for next season, maybe in 2004-5 season.
Most likely is Dibril Cisse. (correct spelling??)

No, beattie was wank last year. Scored about 3 goals. When he hits a non-scoring streak, hes one of the worst strikers in england, while other strikers will make contribution to the game if there not firing, beattie doesnt.

He's an old fasioned striker, is beattie, to much like RVN imo. Id much prefer someone with geniune pace, like ronaldinho or cisse.
Gudjohnson is a class finisher but again, doesnt have that burning pace and trickery i really think we need,

Neither of them have the big match mentality. Beattie will end up like Birtles.

Gudjohnsen would be a good choice as he was raised in Holland.

Would be a good match with Ruud as they can speak dutsch to each other.

Beattie isn't the type of player we need, and he isn't good enough either. The same applies to Gudjohnsen.

The idea is that we're trying to put together the world's best football team, and as such only the very best (or potentially the very best) players should be considered.

As far as strikers go, take away Henry - and there's not really anyone else in this league who fits the bill.

Cisse or Shevchenko for me.

<img src="graemlins/lol.gif" border="0" alt="[Laugh Out Loud]" /> Eider didnt look small yesterday against the Arsenuts, he still had on the 1st Prize Pie-Eater badge too, either that or he's trying to emulate Mr Jerril Hasselbaink, The Man With The Biggest Arse In Soccer (TM) :p
