Edmilson invites United and Bayern bids
Friday 24th May 2002
Lyon defender Edmilson has confirmed he intends to leave the club in the summer and has set his sights on a move to Bayern Munich or Manchester United.
The £10 million-rated centre-back is currently preparing for the World Cup with Brazil but will step up his bid to find new employment upon his return from Japan and Korea.
Bayern coach Ottmar Hitzfeld recently admitted he was interested in the former Sao Paulo stopper and the one-time Arsenal target has said he would relish a move to the Olympiastadion or Old Trafford.
"France is nice and Lyon is a wonderful city, but I think I have given all I can to this club," he said.
"This is my year and I can feel it. I won the French League and the French Cup at Lyon and there are no more challenges for me in French football.
"The way I see it, I'd like to go to Munich or Manchester. They are both beautiful towns and very good clubs."
Meanwhile the 25-year-old, who has also played for Jau, admitted he is unlikely to be handed a starting place by Luiz Felipe Scolari at the World Cup.
He added: "I don't feel I have a place because there are four really good defenders ahead of me. All I can do is work hard and not disappoint anyone."
----------
IMO he's a decent defender but not quite good or safe enough and wouldn't be much better than what we've got..
