Fergie to Duff it out
By NEIL CUSTIS
MANCHESTER UNITED will sign Damien Duff within a week - and Dwight Yorke is moving the other way.
Alex Ferguson plans to surrender hitman Yorke plus £6million to land Blackburn's Republic of Ireland wideman.
Talks to complete the deal are already at an advanced stage - as United aim to beat Leeds and Liverpool for the player's signature.
The move is a sure sign Fergie is already bidding to rebuild his side for next term.
The Old Trafford chief sees Duff, 23, as Ruud van Nistelrooy's new partner up front, although the Rovers star has also won rave reviews for his versatility.
He is at home on the left wing - his position at Ewood Park. But he will partner Leeds ace Robbie Keane up front for the Irish in this summer's World Cup.
He can also play off the main frontman to great effect.
Rovers boss Graeme Souness has made no secret of his desire to reunite Trinidad and Tobago international Yorke, 30, with his former Old Trafford strike partner Andy Cole. But Souey is also resigned to losing Duff after talks aimed at handing him a new, four-year contract broke down.
