Fergie to Duff it out
By NEIL CUSTIS

MANCHESTER UNITED will sign Damien Duff within a week - and Dwight Yorke is moving the other way.

Alex Ferguson plans to surrender hitman Yorke plus £6million to land Blackburn's Republic of Ireland wideman.

Talks to complete the deal are already at an advanced stage - as United aim to beat Leeds and Liverpool for the player's signature.

The move is a sure sign Fergie is already bidding to rebuild his side for next term.

The Old Trafford chief sees Duff, 23, as Ruud van Nistelrooy's new partner up front, although the Rovers star has also won rave reviews for his versatility.

He is at home on the left wing - his position at Ewood Park. But he will partner Leeds ace Robbie Keane up front for the Irish in this summer's World Cup.

He can also play off the main frontman to great effect.

Rovers boss Graeme Souness has made no secret of his desire to reunite Trinidad and Tobago international Yorke, 30, with his former Old Trafford strike partner Andy Cole. But Souey is also resigned to losing Duff after talks aimed at handing him a new, four-year contract broke down.

Read this yesterday in the Sun. Not sure how reliable it is, but Duff is deadly ! He has seriously come on in the last year, and his levels of skill and trickery is something else. I think, at the right price, he could be a handy player to have

Did you see his goal against the Pool.
Excellant 1-2 stuff at the edge of the box, reminded me of Scholes when he was on form :p

Please GOD please! Duff is a raw talent, we need that sort of talent and more importantly hunger for success @ OT to rejuvenate our team.

It was a nice goal, and what makes him particularily dangerous IMHO is that he is not one-sided. Recall a number of his goals this season where he dribbled into the box from the left, and looked like having run into a cul de sac for his favoured left foot as many wingers do, but finished neatly with his right.

Whenever we lose Giggs through injury we lose a whole dimension to the attack, with Duff we could keep that midfield shape better(no more Veron on the left?) and otherwise play him off RVN as a second striker.

Though his big strenght is beating players, his crossing and passing are also first class. Unlikely he would come exclusively as a midfielder(we're packed), but as a forward/midfielder, thats more believable.

Read somewhere that Juventus want Giggs in exchange for Thuram....if that happened it would explain why Fergie would be after Duff.

Shit...i'm praying to God that Fergie land Duff...pleaseeeeee get Duff

and Giggs wont leave even if you paid to get him outta here

Duff would be excelent, it would be very good wing cover and perhaps even a first choice left winger and him & Giggs could also alternate from the wings, centre forward or in the hole.
Duff is a unique player and would be a fantastic investment.
