someone I know says his mate has a contact...this contact told my mate's mate that we're in line to buy Duff by the end of next week..

Just a bit of haggling to sort out re price..

Apparantly he'd prefer to join us than you

I reckon your the contact of your mate's mate is talking shite...

You'll be wasting all your cash on Ferdinand...

Hopefully... ;)

If it means that you haven't got any cash to go after other targets I would consider it to be a waste...

I heard Diouf looked good, didn't see the match tho..

Que sera sera,
whatever will be will be.

;)

The only thing re the inflated fee that would bother me if I were in your shoes would be the effect it would have on other possible signings..

And thats got to be quite likely hasn't it?

Absolutely. My concern is that the signing of a left or right sided full back may be neglected because of this deal. I think Phizza can fill both positions sufficiently but beyond that, which isn't a whole lot as far as his capability is concerned, we've nowt.

I think Fergie invited Ronny Johnsen back for that very reason. He's probably thinking of having Larry, Rio, Ronny and John O'Shea as his four main CB's with G. Nev & Wes as his RB's and Micky & Phil as LB's.

That said, the allocation of the initial Nike payment, which I think is close to £20m this season, coupled with whatever transfer budget that has been forecast prior, could be a big chunk of change.

It depends on how much cash you're willing to spend this summer..I'm obviously only guessing..

I think you urgently need a striker as well as a full back, 30 odd million on Rio could scupper both or either IMO..

Unless you sell someone of course, with Veron being the obvious candidate...but then our European friends aren't spending either, so its unlikely they're going to risk 20m a player who has been poor of late...

If you've "only" got 30 odd million to splash, spending it all on Rio is a mistake in my book

I heared the same thing from a couple of people, but they were'nt so certain we'd sign him according to them we want Duff, and Duff wants to join us, however Blackburn are not as keen to lose him and are asking for more than Liverpool are prepared to pay.

Probably <img src="graemlins/lol.gif" border="0" alt="[Laugh Out Loud]" />
It's no secret both Liverpool and United want him. If it comes down to a bidding war then United will win.

We should probably start by completing ONE vital deal and then count how much money we have left.

Not much the way things are going on the Rio front. And you can bet Blackburn would want to screw every last penny out of us if we did go in for Duff.
