Whats happening with the Duff situation now? Not heard much recently, and I think hes going to stay loyal and stick with BB.

Just because theres no chance of your lot singing him now :p ;)

Just a bit of speculation on my part, but I don't think United will make any moves for him until the defender situation is worked out. I think Fergie may be waiting to see how the Rio situation pans out. If Rio comes to OT for the type of money thats been quoted then it would greatly diminish our chances of signing Duff this year. If Rio doesn't come and we get a cheaper defender, then we still have a good chance of signing him this year, particularly if Blackburn are still interested in Yorke.

I reckon thats about the size of it..

Rio is definitely the bottleneck in our transfer plans, until we know how much, and if, we are spending on him we can't close a deal for anyone else. We should know by end of tomorrow though if Rio is coming, and by the end of the week on how much for though.

I read on the net some where Fergie has 80m pounds to spend <img src="graemlins/nervous.gif" border="0" alt="[Nervous]" />

Yeah why not.

Might as well have 800...

Isn't there anyone here from Stepaside where Duff's family lives? Go to the local and ask his family ...

I wanted to find out if anyone else had seen it. It's all over the news media down in Afrique :)

The latest I heard is that he is either moving or staying at BB.

That was from tribalfootball.com though so it can tbe true ;)

Be great if Yorke and 10 mill would do it -- is the bad blood between us and BB over since Walker died?

We signed Berg from them before he died, and loan and eventually sold him to them after he did...

I don't truely believe in 'bad blood' between football clubs, unless something really big happens, or they are called Celtic and Rangers or Real and Barca.

Thats why I don't believe the notion we can't do any more deals with PSV for example.

Souness reveals Liverpool Duff interest

Graeme Souness has confirmed Liverpool's interest in signing Blackburn Rovers Republic of Ireland World Cup star winger Damien Duff.

The former Liverpool manager said the Anfield club have enquired about Duff and revealed Blackburn would be prepared to sell, if the price was right.

Souness said: "We have had a telephone call from Liverpool asking if Damien was available. The answer was 'no'.

"But if the price was right we would not be in a position to turn a ridiculous offer down."

feck ! seems like he's joining Liverpool.
Would have really liked to see him with Man Utd U !
its all Rio Rio , hope this isn't distracting the club from making more signings for we need another defender and striker imo.

1. You can't afford him.

2. He's a United fan.

3. We pay above market value for big name players, whereas you simply don't have the funds to buy big players.

All DD roads lead to OT. ;)

So, say Utd pay 30+ for Ferdinand, you think they will splash out another 20 odd for Duff?

So thats 80mil on 3 players?

Why not? If you can, we certainly can afford Duff. Over the last few years, you have a far bigger transfer deficit than us.

We have the money to do it if we so choose, but don't stress - if we do sign Duff, you can always get Effenberg on a free. ;)

Duff now Bowyer isn't joining.
:)

Can't afford him?

We were making enquiries before the Bowyer signing fell through..

We've now got an extra 9m to play with

Making inquiries doesn't mean much. We could make an inquiry for Ronaldo and be told that he'd be available for 50m. Doesn't mean we could afford that, though admittedly, you could probably buy him if you were to double the Bowyer fee.

So we're interested and can afford him...

No chance that we'll get him then eh?

As I said above, you could get him if you were willing to go into the 16-18 range.

£56m transfer deficit over the last three years

;)
