Who doesn't remember Mark Hughes' goals? Don't you think that Damien is the man who'll replace perfectly Andy Cole, Mark Hughes and so on...

We have the money, what are we waiting for? He's still 22! Move your ass Fergie...

allow me to disagree too! what's overlooked on this board far too often is that duff is ten times the player when played on the left than he is when played in the hole. his performances for ireland only sparkled when he moved out to the wing. he's been easily crowded out and worked off the ball with his back to goal.. this could be good for a couple of frees but when running with the ball AT defenders, duff is at his most fearsome. his match-winning runs and goals for blackburn end of last season all resulted from him cutting in from the left. see also, ireland's wc warm-up against denmark.

Yeah that game against Denmark was one of the most extraordinary and outstanding perfomances I have ever seen ,by anyone,it was like Maradonna in his heydey...fecking out of this world

I like Duff but this ain't fantasy footie. No midfielders! We need a proven striker and that isnt Duff.

Paolo Di Canio is the most suitable man, and will be the new No 9.

oooooohhhhh !

Sir Alex ready to make move for Duff
By Ken Dyer

Manchester United are poised to snatch Damien Duff away from Liverpool in a shock move for the Blackburn striker.

Damien Duff: Speculation mounting
(Laurence Griffiths/Allsport)
United are likely to make a firm bid in the next few days as Sir Alex Ferguson steps up his search for a new forward. Sources indicate that Ferguson, who was impressed by the Republic of Ireland forward in this summer's World Cup finals, could tie up the deal by the weekend.

The contact between Ewood Park and Old Trafford began last week when Dwight Yorke moved to Blackburn in a £2million deal and now Duff, 23, could make the reverse journey.

It is believed Blackburn have already turned down a £10million bid from Liverpool, who have been chasing the player for some time. United would have to at least match that valuation, after spending £30million on Rio Ferdinand last week

Somehow the signing of Di canio seems more plausible than Duff because Di Canio to Utd would require maximum 2 to 3 million but Duff would be worth about 15 million. Not sure we can splash that amount after Rio....

I think we will splash on him next season or before the next transfer deadline next year. Maybe we can get him on a free.WE CAN DREAM CANT WE :)

Surely if we were interested in Duff, Yorke would have been part of that deal.

You always get a better deal on a trade-in ;)

None of the new Duff stories have any quotes attached to them, just journos speculating that we'd have to pay a lot of money if we did want him. Which we've said we won't do already.

OK Neil, I get your point...But why did United let Disco go for 2M when Blackburn were willing to pays 4M....

Something fishy in the deal..And I hope it is DUFF

Who said they were willing to pay 4m? It was just media talk, as is this Duff thing.

There's nothing fishy, unless you are desperate to find anything to cheer up your day.

feel the same does jedi master.....it would be great if we signed duff, but as far as jedi master is concerned, we need PDC....he'll be an awesome addition to the squad, more as a character than a player....he'll bring that added spice that can fire up a team when it's most needed especially if Keano has to sit out a game..... jedi master still fell he was born to play for United....eventually anyways ;)

Well I put it to you differently then "Who said that they were not willing to pay 4M"...

Sorry I dont need to cheer myself Amir..The point is we need a 4th striker. United did not want to pay for Thuram and went for youth and a view towards the future..

If thats the logic then it's Duff for me....

United are not suckers (well, not that much!) so I doubt we could have got a better price for Yorke. If there was 'anything hidden' regarding Duff, that was supposed to happen this summer, it surely already have happened. If anything does go on with Duff, it has nothing to do with Yorke.

As for the prices, there's a huge different between Di Canio and Thuram (in the range of 15-20m...). Yeah we need a fourth striker, yeah we went for youth with Rio and the price may be that we can't go for youth in the strikers department. Yet, we also need a fourth striker.

And Duff isn't even a striker, he seems to be more effective on the wing.

Well if Giggs can play in the "HOLE" so can Duff

Forget Duff...he's not coming to OT til next summer...when we'll have a full transfer budget to buy new players.

ANyway, I dont think we disagree. It may well be speculation but no harm in hoping Amir....After all thats why we support the team isnt it..

I just don't believe in over imagination

how can Fergie be bothered with Duff, since he's so busy with the team at the AA tournoi, and trying out so many new strikers in Stewart, Bjordic and Forlan.

So Duff or not is pretty uncertain. i guess Alex will just grab a quick purchase of someone like PDC.

Then we're definately in for him.

"There is absolutely no truth in this," he said. "The reports are wrong."

He didn't say that about PDC though...

good thing I don't actualy have a little sister.

I dont know why we dont give Webber a chance. He's a handy player, quick, good vision, great eye for a goal, great skill. He could be another M Owen type player if given the chance plus he wont cost a penny.

Right, as with the Rio deal, Pete and Ridsdale 'quashed the rumours' didn't they.
Duff would be great(he could play the hole far better than Giggs), and the dippers lose out to boot. :)

Duff would fit into the side no probs.

I'm not optimistic tho.

agreed, these lads webber, nardiello, bring them through. united have always had the foundation of youth, bestie and whiteside taking the mickey when they were still kids. more youth please before we turn into fecking chelsea.

regarding duff, a few truly informed souls on this forum have quite rightly pointed out that duff is more effective on the left wing.....so duff to united is, in all honesty, a luxury rather that a necessity at this moment....after all, we have the master of the left wing in ryan giggs, the best in the biz, who himself is better on the wing rather than behind the striker.....an instinctive, unpredictable yet awesomely talented, firebrand striker like PDC is what we truly need for that role behind the striker in jedi master's opinion......having said that and with all the craving for duff in this forum, jedi master reckons forlan is equally as talented at taking on defenders or running at them as duff is, and forlan also has that unpredictable talent that we see in PDC.....maybe too soon to pass judgement on the lad but the promise is certainly there, yes.....also if we have PDC coming in, quite possibly it may be just the catalyst needed to take forlan and quite a few of the other young lads to the next level.....also forlan has that `Utd' desire to succeed, something very much appreciated and will be further honed by the ever-passionate PDC......so instead of blowing millions on duff, who btw is a fantastic talent in his own right, jedi master thinks we have the perfect foil (if still just a little lacking) for RVN/Ole in forlan.....just need to get di Canio in and Utd will be all set to set the footballing world ablaze, hmmmmm

well, am exceptionally strong in the force, is jedi master ;) .....something to do with midichlorians and all that, probably too complex for the mind of a young padawan learner, hmmmmm :p .....
so what do other jedi think of jedi master's theory there eh......

DUFF's COMING TO OT! TRUST ME!!!!!!!! IT'S IN THE AIR...

It's obvious maaaaaaaaaan,

Giggsy is going upfront (Alex said so...), and Duff will be replacing his position, and the permutations (or swaps) will be awesome between these two...

Source?

This will be the most foolish thing from Man Utd if they don't snatch him from the poos, and Alex and Pete know that too...

What about the price? Common guys, we're the richest club on earth... no shit.
