Who would you most like to see wearing Man Utds number 1 shirt in a couple of years time?

Cast your mind forward a couple of years.......Barthez has done a Cantona and retired deciding that he would rather be LA swimming with dolphins and being an actor,

......Ricardo dissapears without ever making any great impact and sods off back to Spain because Manchester is too cold for him.

.....Carroll gets tired with watching average goalkeepers like Barthez and Ricardo in front of him and leaves for Chelsea where he is never heard from again (eg Mark Bosnich(

So we need a new number one from somewhere, someone who can finally fill Schmikes big shoes, someone consistant who can establish themselves as a true United legend, who will it be?

Personally I would like to see that man to be Paul Robinson from Leeds, i think we should have taken him along with Rio.

Dreaming:

Iker Casillas, the only dream option IMO. Anyone else doesn't come close.

casillas is a great shot stopper as he is so quick to get down or across his goal .... but he isn't great at holding the ball and as he gets older he will slow a little and he will be far less effective IMO.

BUFFON is still the top young guy !

Either Robinson or Casillas. They are both class and very young.
Buffon would be nice and you never know. He's on a massive contract in Italyand if the money keep going out of Italian football the way it is at the moment. Team like AC Milan, Inter, Juve etc. might have to shed a few luxaries.
Madrid will never let Casillas go, and doubt if he would ever want to leave.
What about Abbiatti?

With dolphins sure but I don't imagine Fab as an actor and he's certainly not interested...May be Emmanuel Petit...I see Fab playing beach soccer with his friend Eric.

Anyway he'll be still in football (exept if serious injury), if not at United in another club.

The one factor is that will make Fabien leave is his missus, if she's not happy they will leave.
Lets face it, if you were shacked up with Linda Evangelista??

No danger, they aren't together anymore.

In order of preference;
Toldo
Sorensen
Robinson
Would have Buffon, but he'd be too expensive.

Turkey"s GK n the WC ...oh dear i 4got his name ...

As far as I'm concerned he's ours on a free next summer as a certainty.

So we'll be looking for yet another goalkeeper in the January 2004 transfer window then.

Most Sunderland fans I know rate him as one of the top two or three keepers in the Prem. They would be in Div 1 if it wasn't for him. (But are probably going there anyway)

Although he has the odd poor game, so does every keeper, and I've been impressed by what I've seen of him.

I'm not saying he's miles better than Robinson, but he's been performing well in a terrible Sunderland team for the past couple of years, where Robinson has been playing second fiddle to Martyn.

As he gets older he will learn to hold the ball. And he's so young right now. He will be the best in the world by far in 6 years time and still be under 30.

Robinson might have been playing 2nd fiddle to martyn in the leeds team but he's shown how good he is for the U21's.

As for Sunderlands rating of Sorensen. Most Liverpool fans rate Dudek as one of the top 2 or 3, most Arsenal fans rate seaman as the best, most boro fans rate Schwartzer as one of the best. See where i'm going with this?

It's easier for a keeper to stand out in a poor team. A keeper who stands out in a good team are the one's to watch.

Yeah, I remember the season Matt Clark had for Bradford when they were in the Premiership. he had some amazing games, mostly in losing efforts though. Is he still there?

Tough to pick out a keeper who I'd like in a couple of years time. there may be a young kid about to break out(Luke Steele?!). Casillas is good, but sometimes looks dodgy under crosses and corners. Brilliant shot stopper though. I like Toldo but in two year's time he is hardly going to be a long term solution himself.

So my answer is...dunno!

Buffon? That racist, right wing buffoon? Yes, I know it takes all types to make up the world but if you want to make a comparison, find a goalkeeper in Britain who has associations with the National Front and REAL extreme right wing connections.

Manchester United does not need such scum, lying scum at that. Whenever he was challenged about his use of fascist symbolism and connection with extreme right wingers, the little coward made all sorts of pathetic excuses. We do NOT need to scrape the bottom of that racist barrel.

Casillas is a good shot-stopper but i think his command of the penalty box is pretty average, he looks shaky on crosses and corners occasionally.

Robinson is also only young but already looks awesome, he doesnt make any major errors, he is an excellent shot stopper and looks to have control of the penalty box.

I know absolutely nothing of young Steele but Fergie obviously thinks quite highly of him and theres been a few people say he is the best keeper of his age that anyone has seen so maybe he will come good?

I meant : they're not together anymore, but not for the reasons mentionned by the tabloids.

And he will still be playing for Real.

Anyway Fab has a 6 years contract, so he should stay again for 4 years. Rustu is not a certainty. Particularly as we now have Ricardo (and Carroll).

But im hoping Carroll doesnt leave cos he is awsome.

I hope Carroll stays, he's a great backup keeper. He's a solid keeper but never spectacular, he doesn't have that edge that separate Mun Utd players from everyone else. He would never let the team down but he's not the type of player who would be the difference between winning trophies and coming second, a la Schmeichel or Bartez
