We’ve been hearing about this rumor for quite some time now, and now, we have supposed confirmation via visual evidence.

There’s no doubt that being able to download full games from the PlayStation Store is a great feature, but so far, that has been limited to titles designed exclusively for the Store or classic PS1 games. That makes perfect sense, but would it be possible to deliver PS2 games as well? Apparently, it is, because a member over at the N4G forums has posted the picture you see here: it clearly shows Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty on the Store, retailing for £12.99. We figure if the option will be available to European gamers, it should also be available for Japanese and US gamers, too, and if this is true, it’ll be a fantastic addition. The PS2 has an absolutely immense library of games, and because the new 40GB PS3 doesn’t feature backwards compatibility for PS2 software (and the 80GB model only features software emulation for many titles), it makes this idea even more appealing. It would hardly end with MGS2; just think of all the games that could pop up! Let’s just throw the GTA trilogy up there along with Final Fantasy X!

Anyway, this certainly hasn’t been confirmed by Sony so we can only treat it as a rumor for now…a very appealing rumor, but a rumor nonetheless. Hopefully, if it is the real deal, we’ll get an announcement at E3, so stay tuned.

The picture is on the link, can't be bothered to upload it. But this would be a superb feature if it turns out to be true. Sony would make a shedload.

Wow, i remember when that first came out on the 360. Was amazing. But was also about 6 months ago...

Are the 360's backwards compatible?

So, the PS3 games are shit now... (barring MGS4)

Hehehe....

I knew you would bite...
