Manchester United fight Barca, Real for £5million Brazil ace
06:14 June, 12, 2008

Manchester United Football Club hope to flex their muscle in the summer transfer window.

The Premier League and UEFA Champions League winners are looking to add the best young talent around to their squad, and they have targeted 17-year-old Brazilian Douglas Costa for Old Trafford.

However, Sir Alex Ferguson isn’t the only one aware of the talents of the Gremio attacker, with Barcelona and Real Madrid both typically in the hunt for his signature.

Douglas, described by Gremio president Paulo Odone as ‘the new jewel of Brazilian football’, has a buyout clause of £5million, and it is likely to go down to the preference of the player as to where he ends up.

We do have an extra 5 mill to spend on a 17 year old, so why not? Get Anderson, Rodrigo, Fabio and Rafael to give him a call.

LMAO!! I just signed this kid yesterday after my scout picked him up:

Real Madrid, Chelsea or Arsenal will have signed him this time next week

Seems like a bad way of developing a young talent, honestly. I don't any player would relish a possibility of moving to the second division in Belgium.

He probably has a suspect Italian or Portuguese passport, mind you.

how long before we are linked to lulinha ... didnt corinthians get relegated ?

remember that defender united signed from sao paulo and sent him to sporting..
"rincon" what happened to him

Strange bump, I know, but couldn't find anything else.

Anyone know how he's getting on?

I feel we could do with a technical winger, and from what I've seen, he'd be the type of winger I'd like us to sign. He can also play down the middle.

I like him very much, and many reports said he was our fall back option while we were waiting for the Di Maria deal to go through, so he's probably on our list.

He said last week he wanted to join Chelsea. That was because he was linked to them, but he said that he definitely wants to leave Ukraine.

In fact, a lot of news outlets are reporting he will join Chelsea this summer for £18m.

How much sense does Chelsea make? Hazard, Willian and Cuadrado in his positions.
He'll go to any half-decent club that wants him at this stage.

Maybe Oscar out, Costa in for Chelsea? Surely they'd get rid of one of their attacking players of they were bringing him in.

No need to bump a 5 year old thread. Just start a new one next time.

He's good and I think United could use a player which still has that fire to prove himself to the world. Too many established players being brought in the last few (mediocre) years.

He'll just become another Willian/Cuadrado. So much technical ability but eventually wasted as a workhorse/runner for Hazard and the others.

He was second choice to Cuadrado. Be surprising if they were still in for him.

Very surprising, Mourinho said "every douglas costa wants to play for chelsea" suggesting he's not a talent above others

I'm pretty sure he was just the fallback plan if Cuadrado wasnt signing and Schurrle was leaving
