I think an underated player who would be the perfect foil for Ruud is Roy Makaay. Firstly, he's dutch so they are bound to know each other well from being in Dutch squads together. Roy is a really quick player who is leaving Raul, Ronaldo et al in his wake as leading scorer in the best league in the world, not to mention hitting a hatrick against Bayern Munich in the Olympic stadium. He is also good in the air, something we have been lacking up front since Dwight Yorke left. He might not have the glamour of a Shevchenko or Ronaldinho but I think a Makaay / RVN frontline would be the pride of Europe

All high profile Spanish League player will have an astronomical buy-out clause my friend ... do you think we will spend 20mil for Makaay? else it's just not possible ... he's La Liga top striker this season by far, beating even the likes of Ronaldo, Tristan and Raul ... He's definitely out of our budget capability in the summer .. can forget abt him.

Yeah, I've just checked Deportivo's website and his buy out clause is 40 million. In today's current transfer climate I don't think Fergie would get that kind of cash for one player. For 10-15 million I think Makaay would represent sound business but would depor sell? Moreover his name sounds too Scottish to me!
Buy-out clauses mean very little (Weaste would be having a fit right now).
Mackay would probably go for 12-15 million if we bargained well.

sorry i have to disagree, I have seen a fair bit of Makaay and just dont think he is very good, sure we could do alot worse but i think we could do better.
