Season's done & dusted & we've got two & a half months of idle speculation as who we love or should be brought to OT.
A whole range of players are always considered, especially more so this summer as Fergie has mentioned that the present squad is lacking as far as the ultimate, the UEFA Champions League prize, is concerned.
From Keepers like Robinson & Rustu, to defenders like Mexes & Buyten, to midfielders like Kewell & Duff, to strikers like Kluivert & Ronaldinho, we argue, reason out, logicalise our choices, yet at the end of it all, will we have at least some of our wishes fulfilled or will the PLC again pour cold water, as they've done time & again in the past, post '99?
Since '99, we've managed to only capture 3 names we'd been pursuing all summer - Barthez ( Fergie's, not most fans' choice ) Ruud ( even that was delayed by a season ) & Rio! ( Veron was an unexpected 'gift' dropped onto our laps which kind of distracted our sights on a world-class defender , & Forlan's transfer was a last minute kidnap out of the blue & the jury's still out, as with Veron, whether they've come up to expectation! )
Well, come August, we'll know whether we again end up the bridesmaids of the transfer market....
