MUFC Champions 2006/2007: Where will the goals com
Is it me being a fickle bastard or is Wes Brown a bit to clumsy at times?, i dont know if im just sayin this cos his fouls led to free-kicks which led to goals for blackburn + sunderland, or whether he geniunly is quite clumsy, maybe its in-experience?, or like i said, maybe im just a picky tosser ;)

I've always thought Wes was clumsy. In fact, when they said he was nearly back from injury I was quite nervous. Been pleasantly surprised I have to say, but I still don't rate him as highly as I do John O'Shea.

lets just be happy weve produced two superb prospects in defence although fergie always said he had high hopes for wes, i think o shea has come as a bit of a suprise even to the great man

O'Shea to me looks like the kind of defender who will scare the opposition. I've never thought of Wes like that.

But if I had to choose a central partnership at the moment, I'd choose Wes and Silvestre, because they've proved themselves a good one.

if he's left in odd spots yes - just as everyone on the planet. i'm sure nesta looked clumsy when roma ran by him what 3 or 4 times last yr. it happens - what you should have seen from the sund match was his 3 on 1 masterpiece. he's skilled fast young and a red devil!

He is a little clumsy. But, then he can also make match defining/match saving tackles like the one he did on a 2 on 1 break... Brown is class. And his clumsiness can get ironed out, I feel...

Wes is quality. Hope he keeps on playing like he does atm and doesn´t suffer yet another injury setback.

Wes has proved me wrong with the things i said about him in the past he just needs to be a little more stable in his game then he will be a top 10 cb in the Premiership.

 No-one is taking away credit!

He's been our best central defender this season. Him and Silvestre were amazing, but with Blanc its not so good as Wes gets left with too much to do, though Wes's last gasp tackles do get us out of a lot of scrapes. Rio should be a good partner for him when he's match fit and has established leadership and organisation, playing the offside trap well etc. Takes time to settle into a side, and I'm sure he'll be given it now. Note that Wes hasn't been played at right back since he came back? Despite Erikkson seeing Wes playing for England there instead of Gary. I think Alex must be considering O'Shea replacing Gary in the first team.

Yes, I think Wes gives away some very stupid and needless fouls, but I put it down to inexperience. I wouldn't exactly say he's clumsy; to me, it looks like he hasn't quite worked out when he's beaten and an intentional foul is appropriate and when he's got things under control and can win the ball cleanly. Not a problem really, I think he'll get over it soon enough.

me too he'll grow with experience and the coaching staff we have at ot. wes has come back a storm and is starting to get some authority in his play. it's still raw and pretty brittle but he'll have the aura of a master in a few years if he keeps his mind right.

and doesnt get injured for the 17998th time

my mate is brian deane's nephew and when we played them at OT a couple of season's ago he got to go and have after game drinks with the players (my mate is 18 - so am I) and he said Wes Brown had all his mates round him and looked like a gangsta!! he's apparently a proper manchester scally!! superb!! Denis Irwin was drinking a Guinness quietly in the corner!

Correct me if I'm wrong but Scholsey fouled David Dunn for the free kick from which Blackburn scored!!! Anyway that is hardly the point! I think Wes is a quality, no-nonsense defender! Rio can do the pretty stuff but Wes is equally effective even if he's less pleasing to the eye! He is a good tackler, good in the air, he's quick, and he can pass the ball! Its all you can ask for! He reminds me of a Steve Bruce or dare I say it, Martin Keown type of player!

Think it was Scholes, as well. I remember sitting in the pub and wondering if Scholesy would ever be able to make a decent tackle.

Hmmmmm..... i think Brown has the better potential...but only just.

we're lucky that we've got two excellent prospects. O'Shea still has to learn to be more stronger when he makes challenges, i've noticed that he gets knocked of the ball, easily, sometimes..... but he'll learn.

Despite the clumsiness i still rate Brown very highly. (personally i rate the back four we had against Sunderland all the same - they're excellent, period.)

Brown had a situation with two sunderland players coming at him, he kept his composure and the sunderland players lost their purpose and Wes won the ball back. That to me shows Wes DOES have the ability to intimidate oppositions. He'll need a few more years before he intimidates players like Zidane and Raul though..

They are both great! Wes Brown does seem a little bit clumsy sometimes, but name a defender who is always faultless! What I like about him is that he always seem to keep his cool, even under pressure (i.e. last year when he and Barthez played against United ;) )
I like O'Shea a lot, but I don't like seeing him on the wing. Also, against 'Boro it was very unusual to see Nemeth go past him like he did. A defender should stand his ground better.

But the most important thing is having so much talent in defence as we have now!

Those four had hardly anything to do anyway.. ;)

Yeah, those are my 1st team defence atm too.

i thought they were very active actually.

O'Shea helped Becks and Silvestre was doing a lot of crossing too.. Rio also had himself a couple of chances and Brown was an outstanding last man at times.

I mean.. this is what we should get out of a defensive team that doesn't have too much to do defensively.. if you know what i mean.. :)

He is a world class talent but will need experience to cut off those dodgy tackles

Remember he is still young and much of his short carrier was spent in the treatment room

About our best centre back I prefer Silvestre. He is the finishing product

Wes has been awesome lately, the odd poor challenge but then who doesnt from time to time and he has made some great tackles and everything recently, i do rate JOS slightly higher but they are both good talents to have!

Wes is not clumsy. Clumsy is Ivan Campo. Fat sod fell on his stomach as Rooney went past him. Wes is class.

Four from Gaz, Wes, Rio, John and Mickey could be a legendary back four, possibly as good as the recent Arsenal defence.
Our midfield is better than Arsenal's was during their defence's heyday. Hopefully they maintain high standards. Add in the strikers, particularly Ruud, and we have a side potentially better than 1999.

what a load of bollocks. Wes is not clumsy, he is absolute quality. best defender at the club. the one who is yet to prove himself is Rio.

Nice to see O'Shea get namechecked on The Premiership as player of the season so far. Gets my vote.

To think this time last year we were despairing about our defence, and now it looks like we could have the making of one of the great United back fours of all time (given a couple of years and a bit of luck). Let's hope.

I'd like to see Wes go back to RB for a while and hone his attacking skills and put JOS in the middle with Rio for a while so that they can both be switched with ease and in case of injury. Where does all ths leave Gary Neville because if Wes and JOS are the future and are getting more and more games will Gaz be happy with a place on the bench?

JoS is an amazing prospect, but (and it's only a small but, before you brand me a John hater) I have seen him caught out of position a couple of times when he's pushing up. and IMO he commits too easily sometimes. Wes and Micky work well together and cover each other very well.

Who would you pick:

Garry -- Wes --- Rio --- Micky --- JoS

who would you drop to create your best defence?

Don`t pick on Wes, he`s our future along with Rio. A comming partnership for. Let him have a couple of years playing with Rio we`ll have a wall in our defence. England.

Actually Wes Brown's clumsiness has also been from the angle that his incursions upfield are, more often than would be desirable, careless; characterized especially in mistimed passes.

But, these clumsy aspects of his game can only improve and he will be right up there with the best of the best at the end of his career.
