Donny van de Beek | Girona watch

Really happy for him. Would be funny if he has a scorcher of a season, scores 25 goals and ends up being sold for £65M

Do we have a sell on clause for him? If so, that would be great for us as well.

Did he not have loans when he still didn’t prove anything.

He obviously enjoyed that goal so I wish him well.

I hope he has a really good season, thought he’d do great for us but it just wasn’t to be.

We do, yeah. That was part of the very low initial fee is that there's bonuses - potentially taking it up to a decent fee - and a good sell on clause.

Sell on clauses are always a big gamble, as there's plenty of things that can go wrong - the player doesn't kick on, or does so but he or the club turn down bids and he ends up leaving on a free (Zaha and Sam Johnstone quite recent examples where that happened), or they leave on swap deals, etc.

Another side issue with this one is of course that Girona are part of the City Group. Which could be an extra motivation for them to work around the add ons / sell on clauses. If they know United of all clubs get a big percentage of any future sale, it might be an extra deterrent to sell.

Obviously not saying it will be a factor here, but deals like this, where the City Group can influence whether United get a financial benefit from a player sale, is another bit of that conflict of interest that isn't great with multi-owner clubs.
