Does SAF have confidence in Forlan?

There was a great opportunity to perhaps have brought on Diego, when we got that goal back to make it 2-1, but he didn't. He kept on Solksjaer who I thought had a poor game, and instead brought on Rio up front in the last 5 minutes.
Your thoughts?

I was surprised that Diego didn't come on. I was surprised that John O'Shea went off. I was even more surprised that Giggsy didn't go off.

But when all is said and done, we should keep faith with the team that has performed over the past couple of months for a couple more games at least.

The last thing we should do is panic.

Oh definately, I mean I'm not panicking.....well....not completely, but confidence in players is the reason SAF has succeeded so much in the past. The confidence to bring in the Nevilles, Giggs, Beckham, Scholes, Butt, etc from youth, the confidence to give players a place on attitude and work ethic and not solely on reputation, like I feel is kind of happening right now. But keeping the faith, definately, It's the january window and we are going to get either Ronaldinho or Cissé, that I am SURE of!

I was really suprised when he bought on ferdinand instead of forlan.

Speaking as a coach myself, I can see what he was doing. Rio has the distinct height advantage over Forlan, and let's be honest we are crap in the air! I put my hands up and say we are terrible in the air, we never hardly win any headers off corners. And the game against Birmingham proved that. The crosses were not good in itself either. Bringing Rio on was plrobably a ploy to help out in that respect. Though why Alex didn't shift the system after the goal we got back I'll never know.

Bringing Rio on was an effort to change the pattern of the game, put a big man up front for 5 minutes and something might happen, it didnt, better luck next time.

That's precisely the point! What's the point putting a big man up there for only 5 minutes? How many times could we have possibly got the ball up there in that time?
I mean, 5 minutes to go is hardly enough time to change the pattern of any game, never mind one that is not going your way.

Difficult to say...
Forlan is a striker if u play him in the middle he
is defnitely going to struggle.Against Scousers
Forlan had a horror time out in the middle..thank god he got two goals otherwise it would've been diiferent..Even against Rovers SAF did
the same and got the stick. But playing him in
the middle he had blunted Forlans confidence.

SAF is reluctant to use him as a striker but confident enough to use him as a midfielder.

Only freggie can answer...

SAF DOES NOT rate him, and he only plays him because he cost us 7.5 mils(SAF's brother recommended him), or we have most of our regulars injured. Even the 'smart' ones who defend him had this to say' he will be used 'sometimes' in the CL or get this, He will be a midfielder(when we have 4/8 natural star midfielders looking for a min to play), or even worse, He is here to replace Ole who is 29 years old(and that is coming from a guy who at times I thought is a genius when it comes to football) . ;)

You know AL. I'm really starting to enjoy your mildly illiterate sense of humour.. I'm going to have to find some Berber flicks this weekend.

Now anything else to say beside your great suggestion of moving the failed striker to midfield or worse even , to replace Ole? ;) to me that was you agreeing that the Blond Amigo was a failure. ;)
And find your ficks fast because I intend to leave your great forum for good, so all of you can always agree.

Is it me or are AL's posts eerily similar to the Maltese madman. Also, they're both in Canada.

My view is that he felt Forlan wouldn't be able to cut it against the physical presence of Ehiogu and Southgate (Forlan is lightweight in that area)preferring instead Rio ( ) who might be able to 'get in amongst them' as well as be able to win some of those long high balls you began to resort to later in the game.(Are you Wimbledon in disguise?? ;) )
