Does gegenpressing mean we are actually against pressing?

Well, I always thought gegenpressing meant quick counter attacks to gain advantage while opponents are least organised.

Ralf Rangnick has been famous for that, we also expected that form our team.

Meanwhile, we don't even press at all, we are just standing and waiting. I can't wait for the stats of the distance covered. It's been an issue recently, but today's game against Liverpool is something else. Under a manager who's been famous for his gegenpressing!

We are just fecking standing there and waiting for them to attack us. Unbelievable.

Tyler made the same point. And it ignores the context of the shit show we've seen in the last couple of months. The team is incapable of performing that style of football. It's shown it can for 25-30 minutes. To do so against Liverpool away, during our horrid form would just mean a cricket score.

We don’t have a team capable of pressing
Against a team that probably wants us to press

only way to beat this Liverpool side is absorb pressure and counter

Spot on

But what's the point of avoiding pressing the opponent when they can quickly pass the ball between you anyway? Just show some willingness or whatever, they'll pass the ball anyway, but they can always make a mistake if you don't give up.

What application of anything have you seen during that half?

No desire
No effort
No fight

Sub Pogba (contract expiring) with Lingard (contract expiring) to play in midfield with Matic who declared he will walk away in 2 months.

Play Jones, player who has been in United for a decade now while doing nothing big.

Then you have Maguire, AWB, Rashy, Dalot very limited players.

How many players have I mentioned?
Those are 8 players with no business being at United.

Then, do you act surprised why we play shit..

Ole was hit how many goals by halftime?

Who are the main constant in all this, Ole isn't here now and Ralf wasn't here in October.

Make your judgement

Ahh yes because this current approach seems to be working agaisnt that theory. Just the 7-0 on aggregate now. If we’d have pressed that would have been 14 would it?

I understand they may want us to press, but not showing any signs of the desire to get the ball back is terrible thing to do form these footballers. Come on.

Where can I find any stats about the distance covered at half-time?

We tried it for 20 mins of the first few games but the players CBA; abandoning it was a good decision from Ralf. (Not sure why everyone thought an interim manager would revolutionise the way we play.)

That’s the players being useless feckers
Nothing wrong with parking the bus, but you then hope your players have a pair of bollocks to tackle. Our team does not have 1 decent ball winner
