From here to there
secretly hope that we get Liverpool in the CL QF?? (Assuming they qualify)

I just can't help but feel we have serious unfinished business with them this season.

I know it would be a very tough tie, but just think how satisfying it would be to perhaps put them out of the competition.

I realise the other side of the coin is further defeats at the hands of our most bitter rivals, but at least we would get another crack at them.

Or Am I just <img src="graemlins/houllier.gif" border="0" alt="[Houllier]" /> ?

I hope they get a right and proper shit kicking tonight.
Although it would be cool if we were the ones to give it to them at a later stage.
I dont think my nerves could handle it though

Know what you mean. Can you imagine the media hype for such a match. It really is a double edged sword.

Oh well...... Come on the Roma <img src="graemlins/devil.gif" border="0" alt="[Devil]" />

Never mind your nerves, could your team?

Doubt it

That's my point though really mate. I want my team to prove they can beat your lot. If they can't then fair enough, but I want another crack at Liverpool this season.

Fair do's..

If we do manage to scrape through I'm hoping we draw yourselves or Pana...

I hope we don't get Liverpool in the draw, i would prefer to get one of the BIG european teams, like Real Madrid or Arsenal. :p

If anyone can handle pressure its Man Utd,
the more i think of it the more id like to meet you shower of Kunts in the latter stages. Its a pity youse wont make it.
It would prove my thesis that well beat Pool when we have too, the last few times weve played you it has been your cup final so youse have been more up for it.
If we met youse in Europe then we'd be up for it too and we'd give Liverpool a lesson in attacking football. <img src="graemlins/keano.gif" border="0" alt="[Keano]" />

Its not a question of pressure, its a question of being able to beat us, or any of the better teams.

Your excuses are simply that, you don't cut it against the better clubs

"Better teams"? "Better clubs"? <img src="graemlins/lol.gif" border="0" alt="[Laugh Out Loud]" /> <img src="graemlins/lol.gif" border="0" alt="[Laugh Out Loud]" /> <img src="graemlins/lol.gif" border="0" alt="[Laugh Out Loud]" /> <img src="graemlins/lol.gif" border="0" alt="[Laugh Out Loud]" /> <img src="graemlins/lol.gif" border="0" alt="[Laugh Out Loud]" />

Does that mean Grimsby are better than Liverpool?
There is still no team better or bigger than United in the Premiership. But Arsenal & Liverpool should be congratulated for closing the gap a little. Makes it a little more interesting eh? ;)

Better still would be pasting them at Hampden actually.

Being obtuse is not going to hide the fact that you struggle against the top clubs, if this continues ( which is shows every sign of doing) then you're obviously going to struggle in a comp like the CL..

Would you really be confident of beating us over 2 legs? And of so based on what, putting your bias to one side?

And yes it does make it mor interesting, thats for certain

Based on the fact that apart from the Sharideee Shield, your lot haven't stopped United from winning anything in recent years!

Why do you think that would change?

The leagues different in the fact that you can afford to lose to the big clubs and still win it, and you benefit from being very consistent against the other clubs.

The CL is clearly different, sooner or later you're going to have to better a top club, and you recent showing against us suggest that you'll struggle to do so

So, do you think we're less suited to beat better teams now than we were 2-3 years ago? If so, why do you beleive we are?

Because your record against better teams is crap..

Try to look beyond the results? They're pretty relevant aren't they?

Dunno, haven;t thought about it...will do now

Yes, results are relevant. But using your logic, you wouldn't be confident of beating Soton or Bolton..?

That doesn't work. There's an obvious difference between the better clubs and the lesser ones.

Your record over the last couple of years against the better sides has been very poor, so I'd suggest you may struggle to win a knock our comp like the CL, whereas you're overall consistentcy will allow you to win a league situation.

We have problems of our own, struggling to break down a packed defence being one of them..and due to the greater number of lesser teams dodgy results are going to occur..

You're not worried about your continuing trend then?

Not overly no. IMO it's partly down to coincidence, partly down to the fact that over the last two seasons we have not HAD to beat you, Chelsea etc and partly down to the fact that in some games we haven't been good enough.

We all know that we can beat any team in the world on our day.

Such rallying calls are worthless if your team don't back them up on the pitch..

You haven't HAD to beat the likes of Charlton, Ipswich, Leicester etc but still manage it...and you tend to "play badly" far more regularly against the better clubs..perhaps they just make you look bad?

So in your opinion we haven't got it in us to beat a team of any quality? Is it that we haven't got enough quality, not enough hunger or what?

I think you have got it in you to beat the top teams...but the fact of the matter is that you rarely do..

Taking vs us as an example. We're very strong in defence and decent in attack, you're very strong in attack and suspect in defence. Our tactics negate your play, thus your attacking play is stifled. Whereas at the other end we're more than capable of scoring against you. Your key players such as Beckham and Giggs are marked out of the game by player such as Carra - which is a pretty decent sacrifice! Whilst of late Hamann and Gerrard have bettered Keane and Scholes/Veron. You seem to run out of ideas...

Of the other games I've seen you play this season against the top sides Deportivo (you home), Chelsea and Arsenal all simply out played you..

Have you just played poorly against them all? I don't think its that simple..

Yet, bar Chelsea, only managed to beat us due to some horrific individual errors ;)

Individual errors are part of football tho aren't they?

Its all well and good saying "we would have won but.." etc but the fact remains that if you're making these errors it is a failing of the team..

You're more likely to be punished by the better teams who you're less likely to rush up the other end and score against..

But the mistakes by Barthez against La Coruna and Arsenal were bizzare mistakes that we're unlikely to see in football, nevermind by Barthez, again for a while. So it's rather an exception than a rule. We've played Bayern, the European champion twice this season in two matches it was very imporant not to lose, and we were the better team in both games.

Barthez has made a habit of bizarre mistakes this season..he's erratic. The very fact that he has made such mistakes in 2 of the games you mention suggests that its not quite the exception that it should be. Whilst he did feck up big time vs Arsenal they were the better side and deserved the win. So even taking the mistakes into account you were bettered...

I don't know re Bayern, I didn't see either game. 2 draws are no disgrace( especially the away result which was very good ) but I got the impression from, admittedly, what I've read that they've been there for the taking this season and you haven't managed to beat them.

You can't break down the better sides to the same extent as you can the likes of Spurs, so are not going to be able to get away with poor defending as you can against Spurs, West Ham etc. Couple this with the fact that you are always likely to concede and you're half way to realising the problem..

So basically, your conclusion is that we've got no chance getting past the quarter finals or winning the league?

;)

Davo you talk complete bolocks!!! You are talking about united against quality opposition, the competition with the most quality is the Champions League and we are sitting top of our group and on the other hand U AINT!!

<img src="graemlins/lol.gif" border="0" alt="[Laugh Out Loud]" /> <img src="graemlins/lol.gif" border="0" alt="[Laugh Out Loud]" />

Im damn sure we would beat you in a knock out competition. Simple reason in a knock out stage you would have to win!!! not just have 8 men defending your penalty area, hoping for a lucky break. Face it in the short term defense defense defense may have been a good policy but as you say, your team is gonna need learn how to break a team down. In the long term your gonna have to add a little guile and flair, and that will be at the expense of your defense. Then you will be hopelesly exposed ala barcelona!

I think Arse will win the league, and I don't think you'll win the CL. I wouldn't say you have no chance in either..but you'll have to do a lot better than you have been doing against the better sides...whether you can or not we shall see..

Surprised it took so long
