Do you think we'll sign another top midfielder in the next 3 days?

I think we will sign Antony and a backup goalkeeper they hope with push De Gea.

I do think this leaves us short of players who play in a deeper midfield position behind the more advanced midfielder.

We will sign two midfielders, a RB, a forward and A goalkeeper. Watch this space.

If Antony comes it will be the largest spend the club has ever seen, in other words, no, the Glazers will think they have released the purses enough to secure their position. Would rather a RB personally, we have enough to rotate the two CM spots.

If we sign Antony for the reported ~€95m fee we'll have spent around £200m without having sold anyone except Pereira for a minor fee, which would be by far our biggest summer net spend ever. I'd be shocked if we spend any more significant money after that.

Antony, a GK, and a RB if we AWB moves. Although I think FDJ will always be a priority for ETH, so you never know.

That's it for midfield - no more signings. We'll try to get in a forward and a backup goalkeeper (Antony and Dúbravka appear to be the top targets, with Gakpo the backup if the Antony deal doesn't go through).

It's lever season. Anything can happen. We are looking at our FFP spending limits so the glazers have finally dusted off the family war chest.

If Liverpool had beaten us we 100% would have. Let’s see now.

Nope, we're going with Brazil FC. Time to recall Pereira.

I think so. If they don't they are relying on Ericksen to carry the build up in possession which is not ideal. Ericksen's value is to be a versatile piece they can move from midfield to forward, put pressure on Bruno, provide great corners and free kicks, etc. But ideally they get FDJ done so he can run the possession. He would be that extension of the manager on the field. And if not him I am sure they at least try to find a suitable alternative. If not, then you go with Ericksen but I do not see it as an ideal situation.

The value in Antony is the upgrade of the young forwards while still fitting nicely with them. Gives EtH more versatility with the group.

If they plan to play without Ronaldo then they also need a replacement for him. I love what Martial has shown but will he be able to play all the games, that is unlikely. Rashford might grow into being able to provide that role too, but we will see.

I do think the way the forwards played caused a cooling in the sense of desperation at forward. There is room to think some of the latent value they have there might continue to improve.

No. I think the huge fee we are prepared to pay for Antony possibly now, is due to us missing out on DeJong.

Not seen anthing of Antony to comment on that deal...but I am still of the strong feeling we needed two central midfielders this window.

Casemeiro cleans things up but I dont trust either of McFred alongside him consistently, I also think Eriksen over a season is better further forward competing with Fernandes.

I think the false dawn for some of preseason, Garner isnt fancied, we wont be using the other youngsters.....I dont think they are ready and some are actualy simply not good enough.....BUT I still think Hannibal could well be the answer and want his face on the bench

Two probably unpopular opinions to say the least:

1) Fernandes with the captaincy, the pressing and work rate and his early form.....he is always has been to a degree....far too wasteful to rely upon week in week out, this is why I want Eriksen to compete with him, also dont think he should be the captain, or Maguire....but who the captain should be....still dont see the leadership in our side

2) I want Bissaka to stay. Despite Dalot having by far for me his best game for us vs Liverpool, he isnt a good full back defensively at all, lunges into the tackles, average positioning and average going forward. I know Bissaka had a mixed start and a poor season last year. But I put Bissaka into that back four alongside Varane/Martinez and Malacia....I just think if he and the back four can motivate him, he fits in well. I still think he has something to offer this side if the rest of the defence can be cohesive liek it was the other day and hasnt been for a very long time

So for me, right back is probably needed but I put that further down the priorities. A GK back up, well Dubravka is very short term, decent keeper but is he good with hsi feet? That is what DCeGea lacks, DeGea makign msitakes is a liability, DeGea last year is still a very good keeper, again down the priorities.

For me its still a CF and CM that are most needed, above everything, ceretainly if Antony comes and ROnaldo goes....Martial/Rashford, been there too many times to have faith.

I dont think we sign anything beyond Antony and Dubravka...a bit like last season, its a good window on paper....but the paper is still papering over cracks in midfield, Casemeiro on his own doesnt solve them, in fact he wont be so effective with so many holes to fill...Casemeiro and a good CM, we get a great Casemeiro, that why we should be in for another CM, it massively improves the team, a good ball playing all rounder both adds to us offensivley, squad wise and most importantly also get the best out of Casemeiro helping him out.

On ebig failure this window, as someone else mentioned we havent got £10m in transfer fees from sales, that is laughable. What was it 8 free transfers on contracts ending, four loans, we stil have five players I have little doubt should be sold and for me includign some big names another 5/6 people will still be talkign about wanting to sell as per several summers gone at the end of this season.

SHould have been ideally £100m worth of sales this summer in my book, added to the money saved on contracts for the free transfers.....if we were to add Antrony, if would still have been a near zero net spend, allowing another deal or too....not our biggest window in history. ALso all so last minute

I wouldn't rule anything out over the rest of the window. It's the only part of it that's ever any fun. Everyone panics and decisions get made. I can't see De Jong and Antony both coming in though.

Going to be Antony and the back-up keeper for a limp end to another subpar window. FDJ is not joining and that has been clear for about a month. He's already played his way back into relevance at Barcelona and could even be starting games again regularly pretty soon. Barca will move money around and keep him.

Going on past history we might not sign another top cm for 7 years nevermind days

We're getting Anthony and a cheap GK.

No Midfielder, no right back, no striker (which I guess we don't need if Ronaldo unfortunately stays)

Think it’s just Antony and backup keeper to come. Next season we’ll focus on FDJ and a RB. Bit by bit our squad is coming together nicely. Who we target next season though obviously depends on how well we do this season and getting into the top 4 will be massive for us to get who we really want.

"Top" midfielder? If not FdJ, then one of the alternatives we've discussed such as Fabian Ruiz.

Think we’ll be alright though, will have martial, rashford, Ronaldo, Elanga at a push who can all compete for ST. We have a pretty versatile frontline. Look at Liverpool, they only have Nunez, firminho and jota for that spot. There bench was even worse then ours when we played them. City just have haaland and Alvarez. We’ll cope.

No one significant besides Antony. Glazers have lied yet again but some would preach about having a budget even though their dividends over two season would have bought us De Jong (if he decides to actually leave), if we didn't dawdle on Antony for 3 months.

Yeah, if Ronaldo stays we're fine... If he leaves I'd be a little worried about our fire power, but I can't see him going anywhere now.

No. Casemiro was our one big money CM signing we were looking at this window, who was an alternative to FDJ. We aren't linked with anyone else who is relatively cheap so we will go with what we have.

I think we’ll get FdJ when Barca panic that theyy can’t register Kounde.

It wouldnt surprise me if we dont get anyone else for midfield. Especially if we beat Saints. This Antony done deal was mentioned Mon and now its nearly Fri.
A cheap goalie and a RB might ome in, but wont hold my breath.

Agreed. Ronaldo gives us a different option against teams that play deeper. Rashford/martial upfront will be better against teams that open up against us and leave a lot of space in behind.
