A few first teamers have left United the last few seasons. On current form, would you like any of these players to still be a United player?

Teddy
Stam
Cole
Yorke
Schmeichel
Irwin
Blomqvist

Can't think of anyone else ATM.
________________________________________________

Teddy: Definately. We do need a fourth striker and IMO Teddy, but for age, has the qualities I would look for in a new striker. Good at holding the ball, a great passer and header and often scores vital goals.

Stam: He'd be perfect next to Rio.

Cole: No, Ole and Ruud are both better.

Yorke: Hell no.

Schmeichel: Nope, he isn't the player he once was.

Irwin: Nope, he's to old. But the Irwin of 1990-2000 I'd love to have in our team.

Blomqvist: Nope, never wanted him. He's to weak for English football IMO.

Dwight Yorke and Andy Cole probably because I think they will score many goals next season.

none of 'em, except Stam. Too much dead wood amongst this lot and we needed to get rid and start giving youngsters a go.I'd rather see the likes of Webber play than persist with Yorke.

Teddy - Yes. That fourth striker role...

Stam - Deffo.

Cole - Sometimes, I was always a fan of Andy's. Good to see him doing well though.

Yorke - I miss his '99 form, not his attitude.

Schmeichel - Yes and No. He's practically retired now anyway.

Irwin - Not really. I miss his reliablity, but it's time for new-blood.

Blomqvist - No.

I miss any and each of of those on their best form. They were all great players who've done well for United in their time.

But I don't miss any of them now as I believe they're all on the downslide now. They may still be good players though.

Most definitely Andy Cole. He was a prolific scorer with us and has been so far with Blackburn as well. We are a striker or two short and despite the fact that we all know the reasons why he left, he should have been persuaded to stay. It was a mistake to sell him. To say that Ruud and Ole are better completely misses the point. We now need a stiker of Andy's quality in the squad as back up if nothing else. How short sighted to have let him go.

It's easy to say 'should have kept Cole', but he wasn't a regular and he was anxious to be a regular for him to have one final shot at his England career. You could say he took a risk, as he now has no international football and he's playing for a side unlikely to challenge for honours.

We need a good young striker to come on instead of staying with the likes of Sheri, or signing Bati etc. Ole is getting older (by striker standards) and its time to begin looking at younger players who will be able to take the reigns in a year or two. Cisse, Ronaldinhio, Gudjohnsen are obvious candidates, and are young and would fit the bill. Same goes for buying a replacement for Larry in the next 12 months.

Teddy: Maybe (or someone like him) but his current form isn't that great
Stam: No - best deal Fergie ever made
Cole: No - a ggod time to say goodbye
Yorke: No - shame he wasn't offloaded earlier
Schmeichel: No - past it now. Went out at the top.
Irwin: No - lost too much pace
Blomqvist: Maybe - haven't seen him much recently

With hindsight admittedly, it was a huge mistake to let Cole go. He would most certainly have played a role as last season drew to a close and as Ruud started to tire . Now, as I said, we are a striker short, two if you think Forlan is not adequate at this stage. I would be very happy to know that Cole is in our squad now rather than wondering what will happen if Ruud or Ole are injured.

On current form....

Teddy - No
Stam - No
Cole - Maybe
Yorke - No
Schmeichel - No
Irwin - No
Blomqvist - Maybe

Obviously we should be on the look-out for younger players, but with Forlan only in his early-twenties and a couple of players in the Reserves looking like they might make the grade, i'd say our attacking options are more or less sorted for the forseeable future.

I miss them yes, cos they are all legends now.

But I wouldnt want them in the side today, no point going backwards.

However if we had them last year, if Blomqvist didnt get injured, if Stam didnt feck up, if Cole didnt wanna move, if Yorke didnt get on Fergie's bad side - we'd have won the lot.

In case no one noticed, everything we're chasing is contained in that list. A good defender, a REAL alternative to Giggs, pace and penetration up front and a good link up man who gets goals too.

We already had everything we need to be the perfect team.

All legends. Blomquist a legend?

To be a United legend you have to stand next to Charlton, Best, Cole, Law, Edwards. Robson.

Schmiechel is the only one on that list who can join that list.

Irwin, Teddy, Cole ? Teddy may not have been with us a long time, and Cole wasn't always a favourite, but they did great things for us.

I choose Blomqvist, pre injury of course.
the lad got real speed and good ball control. remember when he destroy us in the 94 Champions League with Gothenburg?
He would be the ideal backup for Giggs, something that we really need right now.

I agree with the comment about `legends`. Let`s not downgrade the word to include players who performed well, sometimes bloody well, at times, but generally were run of the mill.

I am referring to Yore and Blomqvist. When he wasn`t injured Jesper was good but he hardly set the world alight at Old Trafford. A good, flashy Champions` League game or two does NOT a consistently high quality performer (not to mention legend) make.

When Yorkie was on song he was very good for us but that happened only over one season. Thanks to Yorkie`s inability to see that you can`t lead the party lifestyle and be a top player on the pitch, he hurt his own career and slid into mediocrity.

However, I think Teddy and Denis Irwin have earned legend status at Old Trafford. Teddy because of that night in Barcelona, scoring when the Bayern ribbons were on the cup, and along with Ole winning the European Cup for us. Denis because of the sheer number of games he played, showing what a consistently high perfomer he was.

I would like Teddy, Denis, Jaap, and Andy back. Andy chose to go and it is unfortunate that Sir Alex used Ruud as the lone striker for too many games. Andy should have been partnering Ruud, interchanging with Ole and Teddy.

I have spoken before of Andy talking too much about the England selection issue and his too think skinned approach to anything remotely bordering on non-rose tinted assessment of his performance in games. However, he is a decent man who always had Manchester United`s best interests at heart, he always gave his best on the pitch, and his loyalty to the Red Devils is obvious even as a Blackburn player.

I hope Blackburn do well (but not against us!) because Andy Cole is one hell of a player and man. Some of us miss you very much Andy. Good luck with Blackburn in Europe. :) :) :) :) :) :) :)

Oh, I forgot - Schmikes is an indisputable legend of Manchester United. Why is everyone being so daft about his going off to the massive Manchester City?

After all, he will never play against Manchester United in a relegation battle (unlike Denis Law whom I revere as one of the hard core legends) - unless of course it is a matter of City fighting to not be relegated. <img src="graemlins/devil.gif" border="0" alt="[Devil]" /> <img src="graemlins/devil.gif" border="0" alt="[Devil]" /> <img src="graemlins/devil.gif" border="0" alt="[Devil]" /> <img src="graemlins/devil.gif" border="0" alt="[Devil]" /> <img src="graemlins/devil.gif" border="0" alt="[Devil]" /> <img src="graemlins/devil.gif" border="0" alt="[Devil]" />

teddy is he feck.. he wasn't even a red.

much as i recognise all the things teddy did for us, and i do, believe me, he's not a red in the true cantona/hughes/giggs/keane etc way.
i do remember him poncing down deansgate in his open top red ferrari wearing of all things an aaron jumper looking like grandad's won the lottery. a bit of a poser our edward, but served us loyally while he served.

Denis Irwin is the best full back we've had since Tony Dunne, Irwin is and will always be a United Legend and I for one will be looking at the Wolves results this season. To ask if we missed a player is a very vague question of course we do, however look at Uniteds results since Denis was not a regular, I think you'll find evidence on that left side that shows what a superb team player he was.

Thanks Denis I enjoyed your years at OT, you'll always be a red...!
